I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise is always on my lips. (Ps 34:1)
KARAMUNSING – Indeed there was every reason to praise God on the morning of June 20 for the eighty-year old Franciscan nun, who is still robust in every way.
Sister Mary Cecilia Liew FSIC, fondly known to many as ‘Mother Cecilia’, celebrated 80 years of being richly blessed by the Lord on her 80th birthday at St Francis Convent, Karamunsing with a handful of Franciscan Sisters, lay Franciscans and the clergy.
With her to thank God for the gift of life at her Thanksgiving Mass was presider Fr Paul Lo and concelebrants Fr Saimon William and Friar Aiden Peter OFM. It happened the Church also celebrated on the same day the Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which added to the birthday joys for the Franciscan religious.
The Mass was followed by a simple breakfast fellowship for the octogenarian. To commemorate her 80th birthday, her birthday cake was uniquely surrounded by 80 cupcakes.
Birthday greetings were received from Archbishop John Wong, as well as messages from all over Malaysia, Singapore and Canada from her FSIC communities, family and friends, which were viewed from a video clip
Mother Cecilia’s birthday wish to all present was “a long life rich in their Catholic faith”. May God continue to bless and keep her in His abundant care.
