KUCHING — It was a great experience having our first public community service with our seniors from the 16th Kuching Company, Boys’ Brigade of St Joseph’s Cathedral (SJC), to share the reason of giving this Christmas season.
This year’s BB Love Box (BBLB) started on 5 November 2022 throughout Sarawak. Our booth was set up in Vivacity Megamall and manned by BB senior members to allow the public to participate in the giving of gifts. Thereafter, the closing ceremony for its annual charity event, BB Love Box was at Farley Mall Kuching on 10 December 2022.
The closing ceremony was attended by the Chairman of Padawan Municipal Council, YB Cr Ir Lo Khere Chiang and the State Commissioner of BB in Sarawak, Capt Sim Tze Sian.
Among the invited guests were official partners of BB Love Box 2022, Eiseng Lau (Managing Director of Farley Kuching), Shuki Liau (representative from Emart Tabuan Jaya), as well as Joyce Lee from TEA FM, the official radio broadcaster. The programme that afternoon also included a band presentation by the seventh Kuching Company.
In his address, YB Lo mentioned that he has always viewed people in Sarawak as loving and giving. He said, “It is indeed heart-warming to see that a non-governmental youth organisation such as the Boys’ Brigade is able to guide their members to give back to the society by giving their time and effort to co-ordinate this yearly project. And, to also allow members of the society, be it the young and old, to share the joy of giving during the Christmas season.”
He added, “As a councillor, nothing pleases me more than seeing members of the society taking care of their own, especially the less privileged and fortunate. We are deeply mindful of the tremendous economic strain on everyone’s budget.”
As of 10 December, more than 5,000 gifts had been collected and the distribution had been done throughout the state of Sarawak. Distribution of gifts was done throughout the month of December after the collected gift vouchers and gift packs were bought and prepared by the respective Boys’ Brigade Companies in Sarawak.
Our 16th Kuching Company’s distribution of gift packs were handed over to the respective organisations and societies on 16 December 2022; namely Lian Wei Hui, the Society of St Vincent De Paul and Home Of Peace.
As the newly commissioned 16th Kuching Company, Boys’ Brigade of SJC, we welcome all boys and youths to our recruitment drive categories:
- Pre- Junior: aged 7-8 years old
- Junior: aged 9-12 years old
- Seniors: aged 12/13-19 years old
We also welcome adults who are interested in becoming an Officer / Helper.
Our WEEKLY PARADE is conducted on SATURDAYS, Time: 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm, PLACE: St Augustine’s Room, Parish Centre at St Joseph’s Cathedral Kuching, Sarawak.
