INANAM – A 28-year aspiration has become a reality for the Catholic community of Kampung Kitobu and Kawakaan with the completion and dedication of St Felicianus Chapel. On Jan 24, 2026, the feast day of its patron saint, the long-held dream of worshipping in their own village church was fulfilled.
Fr David Sham, Parish Priest of St Catherine’s Inanam, presided over the blessing and inauguration of the new chapel. The 40’ x 50’ structure, which can accommodate approximately 150 worshippers, stands as a testament to the community’s enduring faith.
The celebratory Mass commenced with a traditional ribbon-cutting, accompanied by the resonant beat of a gong and an energetic Lion Dance. The ceremony was witnessed by about 350 faithful from the two villages and attended by the St Catherine’s Pastoral Council, catechists from Inanam, Manggatal, and Telipok parishes.
In his homily, Fr David highlighted the new chapel as a powerful symbol of faith and unity. He reminded the congregation that while the building is a sacred space, “the true Church is the people.” He encouraged the community to deepen their commitment to ministry and to rely on God as their guide for spiritual growth.
