Patricia Pereira appointed as the new editor for Herald Malaysia effective July 1

KUALA LUMPUR (CS) – The prelates of the West Malaysian arch/dioceses have announced the appointment of Patricia Pereira as the new editor for the Catholic newspaper, Herald Malaysia, effective July 1 2021. Pereira will take over from Fr Lawrence Andrew SJ, who is retiring from his 27 years of editorial service.

APPOINTMENT OF NEW EDITOR
It is with pleasure that we announce the new editor of the Herald Malaysia newspaper, Ms Patricia Pereira, with effect from 1 July 2021. Ms Pereira has been with the Media and Communications Office of the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur for the past 4 years. She brings with her years of experience in the fields of media and communication, both in the church and also in the corporate sector. We are certain that she will carry out the duties as an Editor for good of the Church and the community.
We also record our gratitude to Rev Fr Lawrence Andrew SJ, the retiring editor, for his 27 years of service in not only starting this publication but also nurturing it to the high standards that Herald Malaysia stands now.
Since its inception on 8 September 1994 in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur, Fr Lawrence had expanded Herald’s distribution throughout Peninsular Malaysia and eventually to Sabah and Sarawak.
In its mission to communicate up-to-date news and Christian values, Fr Lawrence and his team had consistently reported on major events and milestones in parishes and in the dioceses; their work indirectly serves as an archive of the history of the Catholic Church in Malaysia.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Fr Lawrence ensured that the Herald continues to reach out to as many people as possible in a digital format.
We hope that the new editorial team can live up to the legacy which he leaves behind and continue to take this publication to greater heights.
