Archbishop Mirosław Stanisław Wachowski, until now Undersecretary for Relations with States, is the new Apostolic Nuncio to Iraq. Pope Leo XIV appointed him on Thursday, Sep 18, at the same time elevating him to the Titular See of Villamagna in Proconsolare, with the rank of archbishop. The announcement of the appointment was made by Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States, in the presence of the three sections of the Secretariat of State.
Born in Pisz (Poland) on May 8, 1970, Wachowski was ordained a priest on Jun 15 1996, and incardinated in the Diocese of Ełk. He obtained a degree in Canon Law. He entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See on Jul 1, 2004, serving in the Pontifical Representations in Senegal, in the Permanent Mission to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and the United Nations Office and Specialized Institutions in Vienna, in the Apostolic Nunciature in Poland, and most recently in the Section for Relations with States and International Organizations of the Secretariat of State.
He was appointed Undersecretary for Relations with States on Oct 24 2019. He speaks Italian, English, French, Spanish, and Russian. – Vatican News
