KUCHING — A small group style Bible Sharing Youth Gathering was held on Friday, 23 June on the theme of Do Not Be Afraid based on the mass readings for the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time. The gathering was attended by mainly young adults and were divided into groups to share and have a conversation on a discussion material that was prepared.
The attendees viewed a seven minute short animated film entitled Alike by Daniel Martinez Lara and Rafa Cano Mendez as part of the group sharing. The animation depicts a father and son living their lives while navigating through some of life’s repetitive and colourless routine which effects them.
After discussing the film, the attendees read and shared their perspectives of several Bible passages namely Jeremiah 20:10-13, Roman 5:12-15, and Matthew 10:26-33. A common theme from these passages was God’s assurance and providence for those who suffer trials and challenges in following Him. Several points shared among the attendees were living the faith courageously in a world that may not appreciate or follow Christian values and persevering to follow Christ as a calling rather than just following out of blind obligation. – Today’s Catholic
