Inspired by this excerpt from Christus Vivit, Penang Diocesan Youth Network (PDYN) launched its first online testimony project, namely Monday of the Open Mic’, in short: M.O.M. Why ‘Mic’? A ‘Mic’ or ‘microphone’ is a tool to magnify and amplify a voice.
PENANG – In Christus Vivit, Pope Francis spoke to young people about being courageous missionaries, “…Why should we not speak of Jesus, why should we not tell others that He gives strength in life, that we enjoy talking with Him, that we benefit from meditating on His words? Young people, do not let the world draw you only into things that are wrong and superficial. Learn to swim against the tide, learn how to share Jesus and the faith He has given you. May you be moved by the same irresistible impulse that led Saint Paul to say: Woe to me if I do not proclaim the Gospel (1 Cor 9:16).” (CV 176)
Inspired by this excerpt from Christus Vivit, Penang Diocesan Youth Network (PDYN) launched its first online testimony project, namely Monday of the Open Mic’, in short: M.O.M. Why ‘Mic’? A ‘Mic’ or ‘microphone’ is a tool to magnify and amplify a voice. To do that is the main goal of M.O.M which symbolises a platform where everyone can testify to their real-life faith experience or encounter with Jesus, loudly and openly. ‘Loud’ and ‘open’ in a sense of testifying courageously.
On the other hand, M.O.M is also regarded as ‘Open Mic’ because this project welcomes testimonies from everyone, regardless of their geographical location, age or gender. Young people are very encouraged to carry the torch.
M.O.M consist of two series, the Beatitudes Series and the Empowerment Series. Concentrating on beatitudes; the heart of Jesus’ preaching (CCC 1716), the Beatitudes Series will be based on the scriptural passage Matthew 5:1-12. The testimonies given by those who have said ‘yes’ for this series will be posted to social media, namely Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook and Youtube, for everyone to participate in listening and reflecting.
Meanwhile, the Empowerment Series is a live online sharing via ZOOM in which the participants will be able to participate in the sharing given by our special guests, and in turn, will be given a chance to share their own faith testimony.
