KUALA LUMPUR – The Creation Justice Ministry of the Church of the Sacred Heart, Jalan Peel, recently hosted a talk and workshop on composting and hydroponics, aimed at promoting sustainable living and care for the environment.
Guest speakers Irene and Kevin Boey, from the Church of St Francis Xavier, Petaling Jaya, shared their personal journey into hydroponics and composting. They spoke candidly about the challenges they faced and the rewards they’ve reaped, including the successful harvesting of leafy greens such as spinach, lettuce, kailan, and pak choy. With the right nutrient balance — typically two cups each of Nutrient A and B — their hydroponic systems have produced vegetables that can be harvested up to three times.
The session was interactive and engaging, with around 15 participants in attendance. Some had learned about the event through friends or WhatsApp groups. The workshop became particularly lively during the quiz segment, where participants tested their knowledge on composting and hydroponics. Winners walked away with spinach plants and compost soil, generously given by the speakers.
It was a fun and informative morning, filled with learning, sharing, and community spirit. The event concluded around 11.00am, with attendees networking and expressing interest in future activities related to environmental care and sustainable practices. – Herald Malaysia
