IN today’s fast-paced and noisy world, taking time to reflect on our purpose – especially in the workplace – can be both rare and transformative. On Aug 9, over 60 participants gathered at Church of the Assumption, for an interactive workshop titled God is My CEO. The session, led by parish priest, Fr Leonard Lexson, offered a thought-provoking and interactive space for participants to explore the connection between faith and professional life.
The workshop aimed to nourish the understanding of those engaged in business, helping them live out their vocations more ardently. It also sought to equip those in ministry or preparing for ministry to better support the business community, and to recognise that every Christian vocation contains an entrepreneurial dimension.
Fr Leonard guided attendees through key reflections on what the entrepreneurial vocation to holiness means. Participants were invited to consider how their work participates in God’s creative and providential activity, and how qualities like stewardship, innovation, risk-taking, and perseverance are spiritual as much as they are professional.
A central part of the session involved vocation mapping, helping individuals align their work with God’s purpose. Thought-provoking themes included: redefining success from achievement to significance, leading by example to integrate faith and work, and balancing people and profits. Participants were also encouraged to yield control to God, especially during uncertainty, and to seek wisdom when facing difficult decisions.
The workshop underscored that Christians in business are called not only to be efficient and responsible, but also to be mentors, servant leaders, and inventive servants of others’ needs.
Ultimately, God is My CEO was a powerful reminder that the workplace is not separate from one’s spiritual life. Whether in boardrooms or small businesses, every decision and action can reflect a deeper vocation – a call to holiness through work.
As one participant shared, “It was a well-run workshop, very well structured and thought-provoking. This insightful session by the Catholic Business Fraternity and in-depth research provided by Fr Leonard gave me the opportunity to reflect on the Catholic perspective on business. Indeed, it was timely and very helpful.” – Herald Malaysia
