First reading Leviticus 23:1,4-11,15-16,27,34-37

The law of the festivals of the Lord

The Lord spoke to Moses. He said:
  ‘These are the Lord’s solemn festivals, the sacred assemblies to which you are to summon the sons of Israel on the appointed day.
  ‘The fourteenth day of the first month, between the two evenings, is the Passover of the Lord; and the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of Unleavened Bread for the Lord. For seven days you shall eat bread without leaven. On the first day you are to hold a sacred assembly; you must do no heavy work. For seven days you shall offer a burnt offering to the Lord. The seventh day is to be a day of sacred assembly; you must do no work.’
  The Lord spoke to Moses. He said:
  ‘Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them:
  ‘“When you enter the land that I give you, and gather in the harvest there, you must bring the first sheaf of your harvest to the priest, and he is to present it to the Lord with the gesture of offering, so that you may be acceptable. The priest shall make this offering on the day after the sabbath.
  ‘“From the day after the sabbath, the day on which you bring the sheaf of offering, you are to count seven full weeks. You are to count fifty days, to the day after the seventh sabbath, and then you are to offer the Lord a new oblation.
  ‘“The tenth day of the seventh month shall be the Day of Atonement. You are to hold a sacred assembly. You must fast, and you must offer a burnt offering to the Lord.
  ‘“The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of Tabernacles for the Lord, lasting seven days. The first day is a day of sacred assembly; you must do no heavy work. For seven days you must offer a burnt offering to the Lord. On the eighth day you are to hold a sacred assembly, you must offer a burnt offering to the Lord. It is a day of solemn meeting; you must do no heavy work.
  ‘“These are the solemn festivals of the Lord to which you are to summon the children of Israel, sacred assemblies for the purpose of offering burnt offerings, holocausts, oblations, sacrifices and libations to the Lord, according to the ritual of each day.”’

Raise a song and sound the timbrel,
  the sweet-sounding harp and the lute;
blow the trumpet at the new moon,
  when the moon is full, on our feast.

  a command of the God of Jacob.
He imposed it as a rule on Joseph,
  when he went out against the land of Egypt.

  Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.

Gospel Matthew 13:54-58

A prophet is only despised in his own country

Coming to his home town, Jesus taught the people in their synagogue in such a way that they were astonished and said, ‘Where did the man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers? This is the carpenter’s son, surely? Is not his mother the woman called Mary, and his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Jude? His sisters, too, are they not all here with us? So where did the man get it all?’ And they would not accept him. But Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is only despised in his own country and in his own house’, and he did not work many miracles there because of their lack of faith.

Reflection
Levites 23:1, 4-11, 15-16, 27, 34-37, Matthew 13:54-58

“Open my eyes to see you, Lord”
The people of Nazareth could not accept that God was working in Jesus and through Him. They saw Jesus growing up in the village and knew His family. However, they could not understand where He, the carpenter’s son, got the wisdom and the power to perform miracles. As the saying goes, “familiarity breeds contempt”. Jesus lamented that a prophet would only be respected everywhere except among his own people. As a result of their lack of faith, His hands were tied to work many miracles among them.

As we read this gospel passage, let us listen attentively to Jesus as He asks us to open our eyes of faith to perceive that God can use anyone, even our family members and friends, to be His instrument to reach out to us. May we be humble and not dismiss what is familiar but to see God in the ordinary.

Question for reflection:
Am I open to the wisdom of familiar people around me?

“Buka mataku untuk melihatMu Tuhan”
Orang-orang Nazaret tidak dapat menerima bahawa Allah bekerja di dalam dan melalui Yesus. Mereka melihat Yesus membesar di desa sama dan mereka mengenal keluarga-Nya. Namun, mereka tidak memahami di mana Dia, anak tukang kayu mendapat kebijaksanaan dan kuasa untuk melakukan mukjizat. Seperti kata pepatah, “keakraban menimbulkan penghinaan”. Yesus menyesali bahawa seorang nabi akan dihormati di mana-mana kecuali tempatnya sendiri. Kerana kurangnya iman mereka, Yesus tidak mengerjakan mukjizat di antara mereka.

Saat kita membaca petikan injil injil ini, marilah kita mendengar dengan penuh perhatian kepada Yesus yang meminta kita membuka mata iman kita untuk mengerti bahawa Allah dapat menggunakan siapapun, bahkan ahli keluarga dan rakan-rakan kita menjadi alatNya untuk menjangkau kita. Semoga kita memiliki sikap rendah hati dan tidak menolak apa yang kelihatan biasa tetapi belajar untuk melihat Allah dalam ha-hal biasa.

Adakah saya terbuka dengan kebijaksanaan orang-orang yang saya kenali di sekitar saya?

《肋廿三:1, 4-11, 15-16, 27, 34-37》
《玛十三:54-58》

“让我睁开眼睛看见祢”
拿撒勒人不能接受天主在耶稣里并且透过祂工作。他们看着耶稣长大也认识祂的家人 。然而,他们不能想象他们原以为木匠的儿子,是如何有这种智慧并且可以创造奇迹。俗话说,”熟惜滋生蔑视”。耶稣哀叹所有人都能接受一位预言家除了自己的人们。结果,因为缺乏信德,祂也很难在他们身上创造奇迹。
当我们读这篇福音的当时,让我们用心的聆听耶稣,因为耶稣要求我们来用我们的信德之眼以感知耶稣可以透过每一个人,包括我们的家人和朋友,成为祂的器皿来与我们沟通。但愿我们虚心并且不摒弃熟悉的事物而是在平凡中看见耶稣。

省思题:
我是否对我熟悉的人开智慧?
