Lawatan PM India ke Katedral menghidupkan harapan umat Kristian

NEW DELHI – Perdana Menteri India Narendra Modi melawat Katedral Sacred Heart di New Delhi pada petang Ahad Paska, yang disifatkan oleh pemimpin Kristian sebagai membuka peluang untuk berdialog dengan kerajaan yang bertujuan untuk menamatkan gangguan yang dihadapi penganut Kristian di negara itu.

Lawatan Modi ke katedral pada 9 April, adalah lawatan pertama seumpama itu sejak pemimpin Parti Bharatiya Janata (BJP) yang pro-Hindu menjadi perdana menteri pada 2014, dilakukan ketika pemimpin Kristian terus menuduh kumpulan Hindu menyerang penganut mereka di kebanyakan negeri di utara, di mana parti Modi mengendalikan kerajaan negeri.

“Kami sangat gembira kerana perdana menteri melawat katedral kami dan berkongsi ucapan Paska dengan kami,” kata Uskup Agung Anil Joseph Couto dari Delhi, yang mengalu-alukannya di katedral itu.

Uskup dua Gereja ritus Timur di wilayah Delhi — Uskup Syro-Malabr Kuriakose Bharanikulangara dan Uskup Syro-Malankara Thomas Antonios Valiyavilayil — juga menyertai Uskup Agung Couto ritus Latin.

Couto menghadiahkannya sebuah patung kecil Yesus yang bangkit, yang diterima oleh Modi dengan gembira.

Lawatan itu, walaupun singkat dan simbolik, telah menghantar mesej yang jelas, menurut Uskup Agung Couto. “Modi membawa semua orang bersama dan tidak menjauhi sesiapa pun,” katanya.

Semasa lawatan selama 25 minit itu, Modi menyalakan lilin di hadapan patung Tuhan Yesus Kristus yang bangkit dan menikmati tiga lagu raya Paska. Dia juga berinteraksi dengan kanak-kanak dalam koir dan “merakam gambar dengan mereka sebagai tanda isyarat mesranya,” kata Couto kepada UCA News.

Dia juga menanam anak pokok di kampus Gereja sebelum mengakhri lawatannya.

Modi turut menggunakan Twitter untuk mengumumkan lawatan Gerejanya “pada majlis Paska yang sangat istimewa … Semoga majlis istimewa ini memperdalam semangat keharmonian dalam masyarakat kita. Semoga ia memberi inspirasi kepada orang ramai untuk berkhidmat kepada masyarakat dan membantu memperkasakan mereka yang tertindas. Kami mengingati pemikiran saleh Tuhan Kristus pada hari ini,” tulisnya.

Bharanikulangara berkata lawatan itu “harus dianggap sebagai peluang keemasan untuk memulakan dialog di peringkat persekutuan dan wilayah untuk menangani ancaman penganiayaan terhadap penganut Kristian.”

“Tidak dapat dinafikan fakta bahawa di banyak tempat di daerah kita, orang Kristian dan institusi mereka diserang. Kita perlu mengubah sikap ini dan lebih melibatkan diri kita dalam dialog di semua peringkat,” tegas Bharanikulangara.

Bharanikulangara berkata lawatan itu boleh menjadi “permulaan dialog ini dan kami boleh menjalinkan hubungan yang baik.” Dia mahu pemimpin Kristian lebih giat terlibat dalam dialog daripada mengkritik kerajaan yang berkuasa.

Pemimpin Kristian di India menuduh kumpulan Hindu sayap kanan yang dikaitkan dengan parti Modi menyerang rakyat dan pastor mereka dan memerangkap mereka dalam kes polis. Dalam kebanyakan kes, orang Kristian dituduh melanggar peraturan kecil dan undang-undang anti-penukaran agama yang wujud di beberapa negeri India.

Pemimpin Kristian juga menyedari bahawa Modi tidak pernah mengutuk serangan sedemikian ke atas orang Kristian sejak beliau menjadi perdana menteri.

Menurut data yang dikumpul oleh United Christian Forum (UCF) yang berpangkalan di New Delhi, lebih 1,000 kes keganasan anti-Kristian direkodkan dalam tempoh dua tahun lalu. Ini termasuk keganasan fizikal terhadap jemaah Kristian, pendeta dan serangan berkumpulan terhadap gereja dan institusi Kristian.

Bharanikulangara berkata lawatan itu, yang dimulakan oleh Modi sendiri, membuka laluan dialog bagi penganut Kristian “untuk memastikan keselamatan mereka… kita perlu berbincang dengan mereka yang berkuasa untuk menyelesaikan masalah kita.”

Lawatan itu berlatarbelakangkan parti-parti politik yang bersiap sedia untuk pilihan raya parlimen tahun depan. – UCA News
