MEMANG menakjubkan apa yang boleh dilakukan oleh cermin mata.

Saya masih ingat perjalanan percutian yang saya ambil dengan kawan-kawan. Kami memandu melalui kawasan luar bandar Perancis. Tiba-tiba, rakan Mexico kami semua teruja menunjuk ke arah beberapa lembu, sambil berkata “Lihat babi besar itu!”

Tidak perlu dikatakan, kami ketawa dan berkata “Pepe, itu bukan babi, itu lembu.” Insiden serta aduannya baru-baru ini mengenai sakit kepala menunjukkan kepada kami bahawa dia memerlukan cermin mata.

Sememangnya, sebaik sahaja dia mempunyai cermin mata yang sesuai dipasangkan, segala-galanya di dalam rumah menjadi sumber kekagumannya, malah gambar-gambar yang telah menghiasi rumah selama bertahun-tahun, disambut dengan keterujaannya, “Lihat ikon yang cantik itu!”. Cermin mata telah memberi Pepe penglihatan baharu.

Dalam Injil hari ini, Tuhan yang Bangkit telah memberi Petrus satu penglihatan baharu.

Para murid sekali lagi berada di tasik memancing. Mereka “keluar, naik ke perahu; tetapi pada malam itu mereka tidak menangkap apa-apa”. Adakah Yohanes memberitahu kita bahawa kerja keras mereka mempunyai sedikit harapan untuk membawa hasil yang banyak? Tetapi, “Pada waktu pagi” – rujukan kepada kebangkitan, mungkin? – mereka keluar sekali lagi dan, atas kata Yesus, melemparkan jala mereka. Kali ini mereka menangkap 153 ikan (rujukan kepada Kristus?).

Santo Augustinus, menggunakan pemikiran Kabbalis, menjelaskan kepentingan nombor ini dan menghubungkannya dengan kisah penciptaan, di mana selepas setiap hari Tuhan berkata, “Dia melihat bahawa ia adalah baik“, dan pada hari terakhir “ia adalah sangat baik!”

Kabbalisme adalah aliran pemikiran mistik Yahudi, di mana perkataan dipadankan dengan nombor. Perkataan “baik” ialah 17. Jika 17 adalah baik, mereka akan berkata, cara untuk mencapai 17 mesti bagus juga. Dengan kata lain, anda tidak boleh membuat kekacauan dan mendapat hasil yang baik. Oleh itu, nombor 1,2,3… sehingga 17 semuanya membawa kepada kebaikan, jumlahnya ialah 153 (1+2+3….+15+16+17).

Santo Yohanes menggunakan 153 ikan untuk menunjuk kepada Tuhan yang Bangkit dan Kebangkitan kita. Sama seperti para murid mendengar perkataan Yesus “Tebarkan jala di sebelah kanan perahu…dan… tidak dapat menariknya, kerana banyaknya ikan…” bolehkah kita sebagai orang Kristian juga melakukan apa yang Yesus katakan kepada kita – memandang ke hadapan kepada kebangkitan dan mengharapkan banyak buah – 153 ikan..

Sukacita Kristiani kita berpunca daripada kehidupan Tuhan yang Bangkit. Dalam kemuliaan ini, kita akan melihat bahawa “semuanya memang baik”. Suka dan duka, keperitan, penderitaan dan kedukaan hidup telah membawa kita ke saat kegemilangan ini, sehingga dengan keterujaan yang lebih besar daripada rakan saya Pepe, kita boleh berkata “Lihatlah peristiwa dalam hidup saya ini!” Kita akan melihat bahawa “semuanya memang sangat baik!”, atau dalam kata-kata ahli mistik Inggeris Julian dari Norwich, “semuanya akan baik-baik saja”!

Tambahan pula, Injil hari ini memberi kita satu lagi perspektif tentang kehidupan.

Apabila Yesus bertanya kepada Petrus tiga kali “Adakah kamu mengasihi Aku?”, kita ingat bagaimana Petrus menyangkal Tuhan tiga kali. Dosa ini membuat Petrus menangis dengan sedih. Dosa sememangnya sering menyebabkan kita berasa malu dan buruk tentang diri kita sendiri kerana kita dipanggil untuk menjadi kudus dan suci.

Menyingkirkan dosa kemudiannya menjadi tumpuan kehidupan Kristian kita. Oleh itu, sakramen pengakuan sering disalahgunakan, menjadi mesin basuh untuk membersihkan kita supaya kita boleh berasa baik tentang diri kita sendiri. Ini jauh dari tujuan Yesus datang.

Apabila Yesus bertemu dengan Petrus dan bertanya kepadanya “Adakah kamu mengasihi Aku?”, Yesus membiarkan terangNya menyinari dosa dan kegelapan Petrus untuk membebaskannya dari kekudusan palsu yang datang dari rasa bersalah dan malu.

Sudah tentu, kita harus berkata dengan Santo Paulus “Aku melakukan perkara yang aku tidak mahu lakukan, dan perkara yang aku tidak mahu lakukan, aku lakukan.”

Namun, Yesus tidak bertanya kepada Petrus tentang dosanya tetapi “Adakah kamu mengasihi Aku?” dengan itu mengajar Petrus untuk memiliki fokus yang positif yang membuatkan dia berkata “Engkau tahu aku mengasihi Engkau, Tuhan!”

Tanggapan yang sama ini seharusnya membimbing kehidupan Kristiani kita dan cara mendekati sakramen pertobatan.

Marilah kita berterima kasih kepada Tuhan yang Bangkit untuk penglihatan baharu ini yang dengannya Dia membebaskan kita!

Fr Guido Gockel MHM

Seorang ahli St Joseph’s Missionary Society of Mill Hill, berpusat di London, Father Guido ditahbis menjadi paderi pada tahun 1969. Sejurus selepas pentahbisannya, dia diutus ke Malaysia (Sarawak) di mana dia melayani sebagai misionaris selama 18 tahun.

Sewaktu bercuti di Sabah, dia diperkenalkan kepada sekumpulan anak muda yang terlibat dengan Pergerakan Karismatik (CCR). Pengalaman ini membantunya menjadi instrumental dalam memperkenalkan CCR di Miri, Sarawak, di mana dia diberi misi di stasi luar.

Setelah tujuh tahun tempoh misionarisnya yang pertama pada awal tahun 70-an, dia kembali ke Malaysia untuk tiga lagi misi dan banyak lawatan jangka pendek. Dia tahu berbahasa ‘Melayu pasar’ dan lain-lain Bahasa negeri Sarawak.

Catholic Sabah berpeluang mendekati Fr Guido, yang sangat bermurah hati memberi masanya untuk menulis selama satu tahun di bawah kolum bertajuk “I’m On My Way”, sejak pelancaran portal online Catholic Sabah pada tahun 2020.

Berbekal sedikit galakan, Fr Guido bersetuju untuk terus menulis, dan Catholic Sabah membuat keputusan untuk memuat naik penulisannya sekali sebulan, dalam Bahasa Inggeris dan Bahasa Melayu.
