Selamat Paska!

+Bishop Datuk Cornelius Piong

Easter Message 2022

To whom do we place our hope in this life?

Blessed Easter. Christ rose from the dead and now lives forever. We are thankful  to live in the era after the resurrection of Christ and He promises to be with us until the end of time (Matt. 28: 20). For those of us who live after His resurrection, we just need to believe and put our hope in Him.

Have we ever asked ourselves what was the hope of the followers of Jesus, when He told us that He would experience persecution, suffering and death but on the third day would rise? We can imagine how the feeling between believing and doubting was in them until the day of Jesus’ resurrection, when they saw and experienced His presence with them, even then some believed, but some still doubted (Matt. 28: 17).

Looking and contemplating the state of our world today, with all sorts of disturbing and frightening events – the Covid-19 virus, natural disasters almost all over the world, the ongoing violence in Myanmar and Ukraine – how is our hope for God’s presence and protection? Has doubt begun to take over our hearts, as has always been expressed by those who do not believe in God’s presence and omission, “If God exists and is present, why does He allow all these to happen?”

Brothers and sisters, the celebration of Easter for us believers is an opportunity to renew and reaffirm our faith, hope and love for God. With the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, let us learn from the early Christian lifestyle inspired by the hope of Christ’s resurrection, living in the spirit of community, caring for the welfare of others and preaching Christ, (Acts 2: 41-47; 4: 32-33).

We are confident that our journey together as Easter People assisted, taught and reminded by the Holy Spirit and accompanied by the Virgin Mary, we will be able to face and overcome the challenges of life that are troubling and frightening today, because our Lord Jesus has risen and now live with us forever.

May this Easter celebration bring an experience of renewal and strengthens our faith in Christ’s care and love for us, our families and communities.

Blessed Easter!

+Bishop Datuk Cornelius Piong
