Education and teaching, the heart of the educational pact launched by Pope Francis

On UNESCO’s World Teachers’ Day, a meeting is taking place in the Vatican with Pope Francis and the representatives of religion for the Global Compact on Education.
On Tuesday, October 5, Pope Francis will participate in a meeting in the Vatican with representatives of religions dedicated to the theme of education. The event coincides with World Teachers’ Day promoted by UNESCO.
The meeting was announced yesterday by the Congregation for Catholic Education and the Committee for the Global Compact on Education, which are organizing the meeting in the Sala Clementina of the Apostolic Palace. The theme will be “Religions and Education: towards a Global Compact on Education”. For the first time, religious leaders will meet to share their commitment to education, based on the following challenges: putting the person at the center of every educational process; investing the best energies in quality education for all; forming people who are willing to serve the community.
At the end, the participants will address a Message to educators worldwide, on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day, which falls on October 5. The meeting takes place in the context of the Global Compact on Education, the educational initiative that Pope Francis, beginning in 2019, has promoted in order to generate — through education — fraternity, peace, and justice. Moderated by Alessandro Gisotti, deputy editorial director of the Dicastery for Communication, the meeting will feature various speakers, including UNESCO Assistant director general for education Stefania Giannini, and the archbishop secretary of the Congregation for Catholic Education Angelo Vincenzo Zani. – VaticanNews
