Slogan “Bahasa Jiwa Bangsa” harus dipupuk hingga ke generasi seterusnya

BAHASA mungkin pada mulanya dianggap hanya sebagai alat untuk berkomunikasi, tetapi ia lebih daripada sekadar set tatabahasa dan perkataan.

Bahasa ibunda adalah sebahagian daripada warisan budaya setiap bangsa, dan ia menyumbang kepada kepelbagaian linguistik dan budaya yang menjadi saluran perpaduan berasaskan kefahaman, toleransi serta dialog pelbagai budaya di dunia.

Bahasa ibunda juga bukan sekadar perkataan; ia mendukung tradisi dan membentuk identiti negara, dan ia juga merupakan pusat budaya dan wahana identiti kepada sesuatu kelompok etnik dalam kehidupan sesuatu kumpulan masyarakat.

Dalam pada itu, bahasa ibunda adalah alat yang sangat berkesan untuk mengekalkan dan mengembangkan warisan bangsa.

Begitu juga ketika bahasa ibunda digunakan dalam gereja ia memperlihatkan keunikan budaya yang ada di tempat itu dan mengenali kepelbagaian kelompok etnik setiap umat yang datang menghadiri Misa Kudus atau ibadat.

Kini, ramai orang muda kurang tertarik dalam bertutur dalam bahasa ibunda namun masih ada yang bertahan dengan warisan bahasa mereka dalam kehidupan seharian dan juga mereka yang berusaha dalam mempelajari bahasa ibunda.

Berikut merupakan pandangan orang muda Katolik tentang penggunaan bahasa ibunda:

Saya Chaivanner Sautol, 25, dari Paroki St Edmund, Kota Belud. Bahasa ibunda saya ialah Dusun Tindal dan saya fasih bertutur dalam bahasa Dusun kerana ibu bapa dan ahli keluarga saya menggunakan bahasa Dusun sebagai bahasa utama dalam pertuturan.

Saya setuju bahawa slogan ‘bahasa jiwa bangsa’ membawa maksud yang mendalam terutamanya kepada diri sendiri di mana ia mencerminkan identiti serta budaya seseorang mahupun komuniti. Ada kalanya bahasa yang digunakan oleh seseorang membantu kita mengenali antara sesama ketika berada di luar negara. Oleh itu, slogan ini harus dipupuk hingga ke generasi yang seterusnya untuk kebaikan komuniti bangsa di negara ini agar warisan atau identiti dapat dikekalkan dan tidak pudar ditelan zaman.

Pada pendapat saya, kini gereja kurang dalam mempertahankan serta mengembangkan bahasa ibunda oleh kerana kurangnya pemimpin gereja yang mahir dalam bahasa ibunda serta ramai umat yang menghadiri Misa Kudus atau Ibadat datang dari pelbagai bangsa. Sebahagian besar bahasa yang digunakan dalam perayaan Misa Kudus atau ibadat ialah Inggeris dan Bahasa Melayu. Namun, ada juga beberapa tempat yang masih menggunakan bahasa ibunda dan pada musim perayaan seperti Kaamatan sahaja Misa Kudus dipimpin menggunakan bahasa ibunda.

Dalam pada itu, saya melihat masih ada usaha umat-umat dalam memupuk penggunaan bahasa ibunda dalam gereja contohnya semasa lawatan keluarga semasa bulan rosari ada yang masih memimpin menggunakan bahasa ibunda. Tambahan pula, semasa Ibadat Sabda di kampung saya kebanyakan lagu adalah dalam bahasa ibunda. Oleh itu, penggunaan bahasa ibunda dalam gereja itu sepatutnya bermula daripada umat itu sendiri dan juga saya sendiri sebagai orang muda yang masih fasih dalam bertutur bahasa ibunda untuk menggalakkan para belia di sekeliling turut sama menggunakannya dalam pertuturan seharian.

Saya harap semua orang muda Katolik sentiasa mempunyai semangat dalam menjaga dan mengekalkan bahasa ibunda dalam kehidupan seharian ataupun mengasah intelek dengan mengikuti Misa Kudus yang dipimpin dalam bahasa ibunda. Saya juga berharap agar para orang muda Katolik yang berjinak-jinak dalam menggunakan bahasa asing masih menyimpan perasaan dalam mendalami keunikan bahasa ibunda sendiri dan kepada mereka yang berkeinginan dalam mempelajari bahasa ibunda teruskan usaha anda. Dan yang terpenting adalah bagi yang fasih dan mahir dalam bahasa ibunda jangan mentertawakan mereka yang sedang belajar tetapi betulkan jika ada kesalahan dan jangan pernah berhenti untuk mengasah kemahiran yang sedia ada. Berikan sokongan bukan mematahkan semangat mereka untuk belajar keunikan bahasa ibunda.
