In our Church, we celebrate three nativities in the liturgy; Jesus’ birth on Dec 25, Mary’s birth on Sep 8 and John the Baptist’s birth on Jun 24.
Why we celebrate their Nativity? It is because they have played very important role in our Salvation History.
Usually, we celebrate Saints’ Feast Day on the anniversary of their death because that is the beginning of their afterlife but today, we celebrate the Nativity of Blessed Mother Mary.
Why is the Nativity of Mary celebrated?
To celebrate the one who had the courage to say yes unconditionally to God.
Today’s Gospel shows us how Mary’s silence of her conception of Jesus by the Holy Spirit reveals a single-minded commitment to be faithful to God’s will.
She remained faithful throughout her life on earth.
The strength of Mary comes from the Holy Spirit to whom she is deeply in tune with; intimately connected in her daily living.
