Dear brothers and sisters in the Lord,
It is with heavy heart that I announce the passing of His Eminence, Cornelius Cardinal Sim, Cardinal of the Apostolic Vicariate in Brunei Darussalam, on Saturday, May 29th 2021 at around 8:28am in Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (CGMH), Taoyuan City, Taiwan.
Since arriving in Taiwan on 8th May 2021, His Eminence was quarantined in CHMH to wait for his cell therapy treatment. They attended to his health condition every day but unfortunately everything they did, doesn’t seem to be very effective. He gradually became weaker and has lost most of his vitality. Sadly, he passed away this morning.
His Eminence was born on 16th September 1951. He is eldest child of 6 in the family. He was ordained as priest in 1989 and then appointed as the bishop in 2004. Last year, he was elevated to the College of Cardinals on 28th November 2020.
The funeral for His Eminence will be announced at a later date. Let us all pray for his soul and for the Vicariate.
