At the recent July 2023 Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia,Singapore and Brunei(CBCMSB), the bishops confirmed to continue using the current Jerusalem Bible translation of the scripture for the Lectionary
The CBCMSB will not launch the English Standard Version Catholic Edition (ESVCE) Lectionary which is adapted by the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales and Scotland, because the language in the present Jerusalem Bible Lectionary is familiar with the local congregation of our region.
It has been brought to the attention of the CBCMSB that the New Zealand and Australian Conference of Bishops have undertaken to draft a new Lectionary based on the New Jerusalem Bible. Therefore, until this endeavour is done, the CBCMSB is appealing to all parishes in the region not to unilaterally switch to the ESVCE lectionary but to wait patiently for the NZ-AUSTRALIA version.
Furthermore, since the Catholic Truth Society is no longer reprinting the present lectionaries, the CBCMSB has entrusted the Episcopal Regional Liturgy Commission (ERLC) to explore the possibility of obtaining the copyright to print them locally.
