First reading 1 Corinthians 9:16-19,22-23

I should be punished if I did not preach the Gospel

I do not boast of preaching the gospel, since it is a duty which has been laid on me; I should be punished if I did not preach it! If I had chosen this work myself, I might have been paid for it, but as I have not, it is a responsibility which has been put into my hands. Do you know what my reward is? It is this: in my preaching, to be able to offer the Good News free, and not insist on the rights which the gospel gives me.

So though I am not a slave of any man I have made myself the slave of everyone so as to win as many as I could. I made myself all things to all men in order to save some at any cost; and I still do this, for the sake of the gospel, to have a share in its blessings.

O praise the Lord, all you nations,

acclaim him all you peoples!

Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News

Jesus showed himself to the Eleven and said to them:

‘Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation. He who believes and is baptised will be saved; he who does not believe will be condemned. These are the signs that will be associated with believers: in my name they will cast out devils; they will have the gift of tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands, and be unharmed should they drink deadly poison; they will lay their hands on the sick, who will recover.’

And so the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven: there at the right hand of God he took his place, while they, going out, preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word by the signs that accompanied it.

3rd December 2020 Thursday 1st Week of Advent – Feast of St. Francis Xavier.

Reflection
1 Corinthians 9:16-19, 22-23, Mark 16:15-20

“I too can participate in this work of evangelization”
Today, we have the readings for the Feast of St. Francis Xavier, the patron for missionaries, who travelled to Southeast Asia, India, Japan, in order to proclaim the Good News. St. Francis Xavier dedicated his whole life to the work of evangelisation because He heard and responded to the call of Jesus, “Go into the whole world and proclaim…”.
Today, we too have the responsibility to the same work of evangelisation. As parents, grandparents, worker, friend, we can share our faith with others. Even in our sickness, we can offer our suffering for many missionaries who are doing the work of preaching in different parts of the world. Each of us has a part to play, just as St. Francis Xavier did his part faithfully to the end.

Question for reflection:
What is preventing me to be part of this work of evangelisation?

“Saya juga dapat mengambil bahagian dalam karya penginjilan”
Hari ini kita mempunyai bacaan untuk Perayaan St. Francis Xavier, pelindung para penginjil yang melakukan perjalanan ke Asia, India, dan Jepun demi mewartakan Khabar Gembira. St. Francis Xavier mendedikasikan seluruh kehidupannya untuk karya penginjilan kerana dia mendengar dan memberi respon terhadap panggilan Yesus, “Pergilah ke seluruh dunia dan wartakan…”
Hari ini, kita juga mempunyai tanggungjawab kepada karya penginjilan yang sama. Sebagai ibu bapa, orang tua, pekerja, sahabat, kita dapat mengongsikan iman kita dengan sesama. Walaupun dalam keadaan sakita, kita dapat mempersembahkan penderitaan kita untuk para penginjil yang melakukan karya pewartaan di tempat-tempat berbeza di seluruh dunia. Setiap kita mempunyai peranan masing-masing. Sama seperti St. Francis Xavier yang telah melakukan peranannya dengan setia sehingga akhir hidupnya.

“Aku mega ulih sama bela gawa merita ka Berita Manah.”
Ba bacha kitai saritu, kitai ngintu gawai St. Francis Xavier, penyaga sida ti bejalai ka pengawa merita Berita Manah, iya ti bejalai ngagai menua Asia Timur Selatan, menua India enggau Jepun.

St. Francis Xavier nyerahka pengidup Iya ka pengawa merita Injil laban iya udah ninga kangau Jesus, “Bejalai meh ngagai semua dunya lalu tusi…”.

Saritu, kitai bela bisi tanggung pengawa merita Injil. Apai indai, aki ini, kaban ba palan kereja, bala kaban belayan, kitai ulih bekunsi pengarap kitai ngagai sida. Taja kitai bisi tabin, kitai ulih nyerahka pemerinsa kitak ka mayuh orang ti megai pengawa merita Injil ngagai mayuh bengkah menua. Genap iko kitai bisi tanggung pengawa baka St. Francis Xavier datai ba adan.
