KOTA KINABALU – The memorial of St Faustina Kowalska, dubbed the Apostle of Divine Mercy, is celebrated round the world by devotees of Divine Mercy on Oct 5.

St Faustina wrote the diary known as “Divine Mercy in my soul” about God’s Love and Mercy. She received instructions from Jesus that she was to promote the message of God’s mercy throughout the world and was requested to paint a picture of His image as shown her with the words “Jesus I Trust In You!”.

In keeping with the SOP restrictions, 50 devotees of the Divine Mercy Apostolate (DMA) of Sacred Heart Cathedral parish marked her feast with Mass at the Cathedral, presided by parish priest Fr Paul Lo. The Mass began with the prayer of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

In his homily, Fr Paul said Divine Mercy is much needed in today’s situation where the pandemic continues to rage, as well as our community being affected by frequent natural disasters such as the recent severe flood in the Penampang and Kinarut areas.

He stressed that these situations provide us the opportunities to apply our devotion of Divine Mercy to the actual practice of reaching out to others in need.

Fr Paul commended the Divine Mercy devotees on the recent outpouring of help to the flood victims of Kg Labak, Kinarut for being instruments of the Lord.

From the examples of Martha and Mary in the Gospel, he expounded further that even though Mary chose the better part listening at the feet of Jesus, Martha too played an important role by serving. So too as devotees, you are to serve others, Fr Paul earnestly urged of the members of DMA.

The devotees felt much blessed to have been able to celebrate the feast in spite of the pandemic. The celebration concluded with Fr Paul Lo blessing the pictures and statues of St Faustina brought by some of the devotees.
