Para korban kekerasan di Kongo berbagi cerita mengerikan dengan paus

Mereka bertiga dan korban kekerasan lainnya di Kongo timur menceritakan kepada Paus Fransiskus kisah-kisah mengerikan bagaimana mereka menyaksikan keluarga-keluarga mereka dibantai atau diculik atau diperkosa berulang kali oleh para anggota milisi.

Paus Fransiskus telah berencana pergi ke Goma di Provinsi Kivu Utara yang dilanda kekerasan, tetapi pertempuran yang meningkat memaksanya untuk membatalkan perjalanan ke timur untuk melindungi orang banyak yang akan berkumpul untuk melihatnya.

Sebaliknya, paus mengundang sekitar 40 korban kekerasan di kawasan timur itu ke Kedutaan Besar Vatikan di Kinshasa pada 1 Februari.

Ladislas Kambale Kombi, 16, mengatakan dia menyaksikan ayahnya dibacok dengan parang dan ibunya diculik, meninggalkan dia sendirian dengan dua adik perempuannya. “Ibu belum kembali. Kami tidak tahu apa yang mereka lakukan padanya.”

Léonie Matumaini, seorang siswa sekolah dasar, mengatakan dia melihat anggota milisi menikam keluarganya; kemudian, katanya, mereka memberinya pisau dan menantangnya untuk membawanya kepada tentara.

Kambale Kakombi Fiston, 13, diculik dan ditahan selama sembilan bulan. Dia meminta paus untuk mendoakan anak-anak yang masih ditawan di hutan.

Bijoux Mukumbi Kamala, menggendong seorang balita dan seorang anak lainnya di punggungnya, berdiri di depan paus ketika seorang temannya membacakan kesaksiannya karena dia tidak bisa berbahasa Prancis. Gadis berusia 17 tahun itu mengatakan “Kalvari” -nya dimulai tahun 2020 ketika pemberontak menculiknya.

“Komandan memilih saya. Dia memperkosa saya seperti binatang. Itu adalah penderitaan yang mengerikan,” tulis Bijoux. “Dia memperkosa saya beberapa kali sehari, kapan pun dia mau, selama berjam-jam. Ini berlangsung selama 19 bulan — satu tahun tujuh bulan.”

Ketika dia dan seorang wanita muda lainnya melarikan diri, dia hamil. “Saya memiliki anak perempuan kembar yang tidak akan pernah mengenal ayah mereka.”

Pastor Guy-Robert Mandro Deholo membacakan kesaksian dari Désiré Dhetsina yang disiapkan untuk pertemuan itu “sebelum dia menghilang tanpa jejak beberapa bulan lalu.”

Dia selamat dari serangan pemberontak pada 1 Februari 2022, di kamp pengungsian Plaine Savo dekat Bule, tulisnya. Dia telah melihat “kebiadaban: orang-orang dipotong seperti daging, wanita dikeluarkan isi perutnya, pria dipenggal.”

Cacat bukanlah hal yang aneh, kata Pastor Mandro Deholo kepada paus sambil mengangkat tangan kirinya yang kehilangan satu jari. Saat dia berbicara, dua perempuan di antara hadirin mengangkat tangan mereka – yang satu kehilangan satu tangan, yang lain kehilangan keduanya.

Imam itu menemani kedua perempuan itu untuk bertemu paus, yang meletakkan tangannya di atas kepala mereka untuk memberkati mereka. Atas nama mereka, imam itu meletakkan kapak di kaki salib yang diletakkan di dekat paus.

Emelda M’karhungulu juga meminta seorang teman membacakan kesaksiannya tentang apa yang dimulai pada Jumat malam tahun 2005 ketika dia diculik oleh orang-orang bersenjata dan “dijadikan sebagai budak seks dan disiksa selama tiga bulan.”

“Mereka menyuruh kami makan tepung jagung dan daging manusia yang mereka bunuh,” katanya. Mereka yang menolak dibunuh dan diumpankan ke sandera lain. Mereka menelanjang kami agar kami tidak melarikan diri,” katanya.

“Kami meletakkan di bawah salib Kristus pakaian orang-orang bersenjata yang masih membuat kami ketakutan karena kekerasan keji dan tak terhitung jumlahnya yang mereka hadapi hingga hari ini,” katanya.

“Kami menginginkan masa depan yang berbeda. Kami ingin meninggalkan masa lalu kelam ini dan mampu membangun masa depan yang indah. Kami menuntut keadilan dan perdamaian.”

Kesaksian itu, kata Paus Fransiskus, membuat para pendengar diam. “Kita hanya bisa menangis dalam diam.”

Tapi dia menggunakan pertemuan itu untuk mengungkapkan kedekatannya dengan semua orang yang kecewa karena dia tidak pergi ke Goma dan terutama “mengecam kekerasan bersenjata, pembantaian, pemerkosaan, perusakan dan penjarahan” yang terus menebar teror dalam kehidupan masyarakat Kongo.

“Singkirkan senjatamu, akhiri perang. Cukup,” katanya kepada mereka yang bertanggung jawab.

Di negara di mana kekerasan seksual adalah senjata perang yang umum, Paus Fransiskus memberikan kata-kata penghiburan khusus kepada perempuan dan anak perempuan dan peringatan keras kepada mereka yang akan menargetkan mereka.

“Saya berdoa agar kaum perempuan, setiap perempuan, dapat dihormati, dilindungi, dan dihargai,” katanya.

“Kekerasan terhadap perempuan dan ibu adalah kekerasan terhadap Tuhan sendiri, yang dari seorang perempuan, dari seorang ibu, mengambil kondisi manusiawi kita.” – UCA News Indonesia
