ROMA – Pembedahan pemisahan bayi kembar siam tidak selalu berhasil. Ianya memerlukan ketangkasan dan kecermatan dalam tindakan operasi. Di Roma, melalui tiga prosedur pembedahan dan beratus-ratus jam kerja, kembar siam berusia dua tahun dari Republik Afrika Tengah, Ervina dan Prefina telah berjaya dipisahkan di Hospital Kepausan Kanak-Kanak Bambino Gesu Vatikan.

Situasi kedua kembar siam ini menunjukkan keadaan tengkorak bergabung.

Doktor berkata ia adalah salah satu bentuk pelekuran kranial dan serebral yang paling jarang dan paling kompleks. Proses pemisahan ini memakan masa sekitar 18 jam dan melibatkan tenaga 30 orang doktor pakar.

Diumumkan bahawa pembedahan telah selesai pada 5 Jun 2020. Pihak hospital mengatakan bahawa kedua-dua bayi perempuan itu dalam keadaan baik. Mereka dijangka mencapai tahap pemulihan sepenuhnya, walaupun risiko jangkitan masih ada. Untuk mengelakkan kerosakan pada tengkorak mereka, kedua-duanya mesti memakai topi keledar khas selama beberapa bulan

Si kembar lahir pada 29 Jun 2018, di Mbaiki, sebuah kota kecil di Republik Afrika Tengah. Ketika mereka cukup stabil untuk melakukan perjalanan, mereka dipindahkan ke ibu kota, Bangui, tempat mereka dirawat di rumah sakit yang dibangun dengan bantuan Bambino Gesu. Projek kesihatan ini dimulai setelah Bapa Suci Fransiskus mengunjungi negara itu pada tahun 2015.

Di Bangui, mereka bertemu dengan Pengarah Bambino Gesu, Mariella Enoc. Mariella membuat keputusan untuk memindahkan kembar ke Rom untuk melihat apakah perpecahan tengkorak ini mungkin berlaku. Untuk meneroka harapan ini, pasukan petugas khas dibentuk. Ujian menunjukkan bayi kembar itu dalam keadaan sihat, tetapi jantung salah seorang dari mereka bekerja lebih keras untuk menjaga keseimbangan fisiologi kedua-dua organ, termasuk otak.

Hospital ini juga menjelaskan kedua bayi itu memiliki keperibadian berbeza. Prefina, bersikap lincah dan menyenangkan, sedangkan Ervina lebih serius dan cenderung diam-diam mengamati sekelilingnya. Para doktor pakar termasuk ahli bedah saraf, ahli anestesi, ahli saraf-radiologi, ahli bedah plastik, dan ahli fisioterapi bekerja memisahkan tulang tengkorak.

Tim ini mengakui bahawa rintangan yang paling rumit dan paling sulit ialah memisahkan jaringan pembuluh darah bersama yang membawa darah dari otak kedua bayi itu ke hati mereka.

Dua pembedahan pertama dilakukan pada 2019. Pembedahan ini bertujuan untuk menciptakan jaringan pembuluh darah tersendiri untuk masing-masing dari mereka. Disusuli dengan pembedahan terakhir untuk menyelesaikan pemisahan. “Ini adalah detik yang berharga.

Pengalaman hebat yang tidak dapat diulang, “kata Ketua Bedah Saraf Bambino Gesu, Dr Carlo Marras, dan ketua pasukan yang memisahkan kembar tersebut.

“Ini adalah matlamat yang sangat bercita-cita tinggi dan kami melakukan segala yang kami mampu untuk mencapainya, dengan semangat, keyakinan dan kegembiraan. Dengan berkongsi setiap langkah, pelajari setiap detail bersama, “katanya.

Ketika si kembar merayakan harijadi dua tahun pada 29 Jun 2020, untuk pertama kalinya kedua mereka dapat memandang wajah ke wajah. Ketika itu, ibu mereka, Ermine dengan sebak memegang kedua lengan mereka. Majlis sederhana untuk meraikah harijadi mereka diadakan di rumah sakit.

Keberhasilan pembedahan itu diumumkan di Roma dalam siaran media. Mereka tidak dapat menyembunyikan kegembiraannya. “Ervina dan Prefina dilahirkan dua kali. Jika kami tinggal di Afrika, saya tidak tahu nasib apa yang akan mereka lalui,” kata Ermine. 

“Sekarang setelah mereka terpisah dengan kesihatan baik-baik, saya ingin mereka dibaptiskan oleh Bapa Suci Fransiskus yang selalu merawat anak-anak Bangui.

“Apabila anak kembar saya ini besar, saya inginkan mereka untuk menjadi doktor agar dapat menyelamatkan nyawa anak-anak yang lain,” ujar Ermine. – Hidupkatolik
