Youths of St Joachim 12th Mile gather outdoors for Holy Mass, which was celebrated by Fr Joseph Ng, SJ on the first day of camp

KOTA PADAWAN — Following the pandemic’s break, the St Joachim 12th Mile youths were pleased to host the annual Youth Easter Gathering on Vocation Sunday at Dynawood Beach Stay, Sematan. The camp was participated by 34 participants including Fr Joseph Ng, SJ.
With the theme John 10:14, “I am the good shepherd, I know my own sheep and my sheep know me,” this year’s YEG was primarily intended to plant the seeds of priestly and religious vocation in these youths’ minds and hearts, and to respond to the call and mission that the Lord entrusts to each of us in this world, amid its afflictions, hopes, challenges, and successes.
Holy Mass was held outdoors on the first day of the camp and celebrated by Fr Joseph Ng in conjunction with Vocation Sunday. In the evening, the youths spent their time doing fun activities on the beach. During the sharing session held by Fr Joseph that night, he talked about his experience during his younger years before responding to the call to be a priest. He also urged the youths to discern and answer their calling.
Listening to Fr Joseph’s journey when he decided to follow God was a great insight. His humility and steadfastness to submit to the Holy Spirit’s promptings for discernment demonstrated his fervent desire to lead a life dedicated to serve with love.
According to Caitlin Lisa (one of the participants), it was a great experience for all participants considering this is the first time our Youth Easter Gathering was held outside our 12 Mile chapel. Upon arrival, they were brought to the hall where all visitors were waiting to check-in. Shortly after, they enjoyed their potluck lunch brought from home. They ate while being accompanied by the breeze and the sound of the sea and we were briefed by the coordinator about the tentative programmes.
We hope that through this camp, the prayer and activity initiatives related to this day can strengthen an awareness of vocation within our families, parish communities, consecrated life communities, and our ecclesial associations and movements. Let’s pray for the light of the Holy Spirit, so that all of us can find our proper place and give the best of ourselves in this great divine plan! – Today’s Catholic
