TERAWI – Working towards the direction to create a synodal church, and focusing on the Vision and Mission of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu, Holy Nativity Church of Terawi’s (HNCT) Pastoral Sport Committee is organising its 1st Inter-Catholic Community Games commencing since Jun 15 till Aug 31.
HNCT comprised of six Kampung Catholic Communities (CC) that are; Mahandoi Catholic Community, Monsopiad Catholic Community, Kanadaru Catholic Community, Bukitas Catholic Community, Sukod Catholic Community and Tuaui Catholic Community.
Each CC was given the task to organize one of the eight games being competed, such as; futsal – Jun 17, carrom & chess – Jun 22, e-sport – Jul 8, dart – Jul 19 and 20, ping pong – Jul 27, badminton – Aug 11, football – Aug 24 and 31.
The main aims of organizing the events were first to create team spirit within the CC and thus, work together serving the church. Secondly, to inject the spirit of sportsmanship and brotherhood among the CC and to foster unity among CC under HNCT.
The event was launched on Jun 15 at 7.30pm after the sunset mass, bringing the six Kampung CC together for the first Inter-CC Games competition. Much spirit and enthusiasm shown in each team as they marched into the Parish Hall, and competed in the yell competition. Participants comprised of seniors, adults, teenagers, kids and babies, as young as six months and 11 months respectively.
The organising committee gave recognition to a personality in HNCT communities during the launch, and awarded Johnny Takom as “Tokoh Sukan” 2024. Johnny Takom was a Sabah state footballer in the year 70’s / 80’s.
The first game futsal, kicked off on Jun 17 after the opening prayer by Catechist Marc Molison. It was held at Juara Gym, Tombovo and organised by Monsopiad CC. Monsopiad CC emerged the overall winner combining score of men and women team.

1. Men’s futsal champion – Tuaui CC
2. Women’s futsal champion – Bukitas CC
3. Male top scorer – Sukod CC, Inzanghi William (4 goals)
4. Female top scorer – Bukitas CC, Bong Shiow Jen (11 goals)
The futsal competition closed with a closing prayer by HNPT assistant rector, Fr Jack J Sigam.
The Inter CC- Games Competition is a two and half months long competition and the closing will be on the Aug 31.
The organising committee encourages families of each Kampung CC to come and fully support the event by either participating or cheering for their Kampung team. Unity is strength and with everyone’s presence and support, it will make HNCT a synodal church.
