TELIPOK – In a vibrant display of faith and unity, the parish community of Holy Family Church joyfully celebrated Catechetical Sunday on Aug 3 2025. The event, which aimed to honour the vital role of catechists and religious education, brought together children, parents, and parishioners in a spirit of worship, learning, and joyful togetherness.
The Sunday began with the Holy Mass celebrated by Fr Sylvester Wong. In his homily he touched on the theme for Catechetical which is “We Can Make the World a Better Place” (Phil 2:4). He said, “this theme invites reflection on how Christians can contribute to making the world a better place through their actions and faith. In a world marked by individualism, division, and injustice, the call to Christian discipleship is more urgent than ever. The theme reminds us that faith is not a private possession, but a life-changing force meant to transform the world through love, service, and community.”
Fr Wong continued, “rooted in Philippians 2:4, we are called to imitate Christ’s self-giving love by shifting our focus from ourselves to the needs of others. This simple but radical change in perspective is at the heart of catechesis, it teaches us not just what we believe, but how we are to live.”
He invited catechists, families, parish communities, and all the faithful to rediscover the Church’s social mission and to become active participants in building God’s Kingdom of justice, peace, and mercy. “Whether through teaching children, helping the poor, caring for creation, or simply offering kindness in everyday life, we each have a role in making the world more like what God desires it to be,” he stressed.
Following the Mass, a special video presentation reflecting the theme of Catechetical Sunday 2025 was screened in the church, reinforcing the mission of catechesis in deepening faith and building a Christ-centered community.
The celebration continued with a potluck fellowship at the Church Hall, where families shared their favourite dishes. Laughter, conversation, and the warmth of community were evident as children and parents gathered to enjoy the shared meal.
The event also featured a variety of engaging activities for children, including a Bible stories competition, showcasing the children’s creativity and knowledge. Apart from that there was a lively Bible quiz, testing their understanding in a fun and interactive way. Gift presentations for participants of colouring activities held during catechism classes were also done.
The day ended on a high note, with smiles all around as the children enjoyed both the activities and the opportunity to bond with their peers and families in faith.
Catechetical Sunday 2025 at Holy Family Church was truly a testament to the vibrant and nurturing spirit of the parish community, a celebration of faith passed on from generation to generation.
