First reading Genesis 17:1,9-10,15-22

The Lord make a covenant and gives Abram and Sarai new names

When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to him and said, ‘I am El Shaddai. Bear yourself blameless in my presence, and I will make a Covenant between myself and you. You on your part shall maintain my Covenant, yourself and your descendants after you, generation after generation. Now this is my Covenant which you are to maintain between myself and you, and your descendants after you: all your males must be circumcised.’

God said to Abraham, ‘As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her Sarai, but Sarah. I will bless her and moreover give you a son by her. I will bless her and nations shall come out of her; kings of peoples shall descend from her.’ Abraham bowed to the ground, and he laughed, thinking to himself, ‘Is a child to be born to a man one hundred years old, and will Sarah have a child at the age of ninety?’ Abraham said to God, ‘Oh, let Ishmael live in your presence!’ But God replied, ‘No, but your wife Sarah shall bear you a son whom you are to name Isaac. With him I will establish my Covenant, a Covenant in perpetuity, to be his God and the God of his descendants after him. For Ishmael too I grant you your request: I bless him and I will make him fruitful and greatly increased in numbers. He shall be the father of twelve princes, and I will make him into a great nation. But my Covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear you at this time next year.’ When he had finished speaking to Abraham God went up from him.

‘If you want to, you can cure me’

After Jesus had come down from the mountain large crowds followed him. A leper now came up and bowed low in front of him. ‘Sir,’ he said ‘if you want to, you can cure me.’ Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him and said, ‘Of course I want to! Be cured!’ And his leprosy was cured at once. Then Jesus said to him, ‘Mind you do not tell anyone, but go and show yourself to the priest and make the offering prescribed by Moses, as evidence for them.’

Reflection
Genesis 17:1,9-10, Matthew 8:1-4

“Jesus’ love for the nobodies in society”
In the time of Jesus, lepers were shunned by society because they were contagious. People were afraid to be near them and relate with them. These people were unwanted by their own families and friends. In today’s passage, Jesus was approached by a leper who asked Him to heal his skin disease. Jesus did not shun the leper but stretched out His hand, touched and healed Him. In the heart of Jesus, the leper was not a nobody, but a person who deserved His attention and care.

Today, let us imitate the heart of Jesus. Many people in our society are shunned and treated like nobodies, as unwanted, like the migrant workers and the poor. Often, we do not need to look far because these people are in our own homes, neighbourhoods and parishes. Through us, Jesus wants to reach out to these people and let them know that they are objects of His love.

Question for reflection:
How can I be Jesus’ living presence to those I encounter today?

Kejadian 17:1,9-10, Matius 8:1-4

“Kasih Yesus kepada mereka yang tidak dipinggirkan dalam masyarakat.”
Pada zaman Yesus, pesakit kusta dipulaukan oleh masyarakat kerana penyakit ini berjangkit. Orang-orang takut untuk berada di dekat mereka dan berkomunikasi dengan mereka. Pesakit kusta ini tidak dikehendaki oleh keluarga dan rakan-rakan mereka sendiri. Dalam petikan hari ini, Yesus didekati oleh seorang pesakit kusta yang memintaNya menyembuhkan penyakit kulit yang dihadapinya. Yesus tidak mengusir pesakit kusta tersebut tetapi menghulurkan tanganNya, menyentuh dan menyembuhkan dia. Di hati Yesus, pesakit kusta adalah penting, orang yang layak menerima perhatian dan perawatan dariNya.

Hari ini, marilah meniru hati Yesus. Ramai orang dalam masyarakat kita diusir dan diperlakukan sebagai golongan yang tidak penting, tidak diterima seperti pekerja migran dan orang miskin. Selalunya, kita tidak perlu melihat jauh kerana orang-orang seperti ini ada di rumah kita sendiri, jiran tetangga dan paroki. Melalui kita, Yesus ingin mendekati mereka dan menyatakan kepada mereka bahawa mereka dikasih olehNya.

Soalan renungan:
Bagaimana saya dapat menjadi kehadiran Yesus yang hidup kepada orang-orang yang saya temui hari ini?

Pemungkal 17:9-10; Matthew 8:1-4

“Pengerindu Jesus ngagai sida ti di keduan raban mayuh.”
Lebuh jeman Jesus suba, orang ti sakit lan di serara ari raban mensia mayuh laban pengakit sida ti mudah ngerekai. Mensia mayuj takut begulai semak sida ti kena sakit lan lalu enggau ngaul sida. Sida ti sakit lan tu nyadi orang buai ulih bilik sereta kaban sida empu. Ba bacha saritu, siko orang ti sakit lan datai mansang ngagai Jesus minta awak disumanka. Jesus enda muru orang nya tang ngunjur ka jari Iya, negu orang nya lalu nyuman ka Iya. Ba dalam ati Jesus, orang ti sakit lan nya patut nerima saup sereta ibun ari Iya laban orang nya mega nembiak Allah Taala.

Saritu, aram kitai bechuan ka ati Jesus. Mayuh orang ti ba maya hati tu di buru tauka digaga baka ka ukai mensia, dibuai, baka sida ti gawa ba pesisir enggau sida ti seranta. Kitai enda ibuh meda jauh, peda ba ruang bilik kitai dulu, ba genturung pendiau sereta Gerija endur kitai besembiang. Nengah kitai,Jesus deka ngunjur ka jari Iya ngagai genap iko sida tu awak sida uliu ngasaika pengerindu Iya.

“耶稣的爱献给社会中不起眼的人”

在耶稣的那一个时期，麻风病人是社会避讳的一群人，因为他们患的病具有传染性。人们害怕靠近他们及与他们有关联。这些人被自己的家属和朋友给遗弃了。在今天的篇章里，耶稣走向一位麻风病患者，因为那人要求耶稣治疗他的皮肤病。耶稣没有避开那位麻风病患者，而是伸出手去触碰了他，并且还治愈了他的病。在耶稣的胸怀里，麻风病人不是一个不起眼的人，而是值得祂付诸于关注及关怀的人。

今天，让我们效仿耶稣的胸怀。在我们的社会里，有很多人是被归类为忌讳的人群以及被视为不起眼的人，被认定为不被重视的人，就像外籍劳工和穷困者。很多时候，我们并不需要看得太远，因为这些人就在我们的家庭里、我们的邻里之间、以及我们的堂区里等等的场所里。经由我们，耶稣要触及这些人，以及让他们知道他们是被耶稣所钟爱的物体。

省思题：
我怎样在今天为我邂逅的人成为耶稣活生生临在的见证呢？
