KOTA KINABALU – Amid low vaccination rate in the State, the Catholic Doctors Association Malaysia (CDAM), Sabah Chapter, organized two recent seminars, entitled Know COVID-19 and Our Christian Response on Sep 5, followed by COVID-19 dan Respon Umat Kristian on Sep 12.
The online seminars via Zoom attracted 1000 participants for the English session and 425 for the Bahasa Melayu (BM) session.
CDAM doctors felt an urgent need to get across the message to the people the importance of participating in the vaccination program. They cited Pope Francis who called the decision to be vaccinated “an act of Love”.
They also reiterated that it was not just enough to get vaccinated, but equally vital to do so with other preventive measures such as wearing the face mask, hand sanitizing, washing of hands, social distancing, avoiding crowded places, and the importance of being in good ventilated room or surroundings.
The virtual seminar also served as an education for the participants to be deeply ingrained in their conscious mind the symptoms of the deadly COVID-19, its after affects, the various ways it can spread, its incubation period, techniques of wearing mask, the importance of double masking, the necessary period of 10 days for quarantine, the question of observing SOP when you have finished the quarantine period, the moral responsibilities as a Christian, and other practical issues.
The speakers for the seminars were Dr Timothy William, Dr Felice Huang, Dr Michael Raj, Dr Jeffrey Soon, Dr Fredie Robinson as moderator, and Fr Nicholas Stephen, who gave the moral implications and the Christian response. Fr Paul Lo and Fr Michael Modoit obliged the opening prayer for the English and BM sessions respectively, while Archbishop John Wong concluded the sessions with his personal remarks and final blessings.
The CDAM take this opportunity to extend their appreciation to the technical team who made this program a success. They are Dr Pauline Wong, Dr Ellisa Soh, Dr Justine Tan, Mdm Sylvia Richard, Mr Lorenzo Lowrince, Mr Neil Morris and Sr Rita Lasim.
