First reading Isaiah 48:17-19

If you had been alert to my commandments, your happiness would have been like a river

Thus says the Lord, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:

I, the Lord, your God, teach you what is good for you,

I lead you in the way that you must go.

If only you had been alert to my commandments,

your happiness would have been like a river,

your integrity like the waves of the sea.

Your children would have been numbered like the sand,

your descendants as many as its grains.

Never would your name have been cut off or blotted out before me.

Responsorial Psalm 1:1-4,6

Anyone who follows you, O Lord, will have the light of life.

Happy indeed is the man

who follows not the counsel of the wicked;

nor lingers in the way of sinners

nor sits in the company of scorners,

but whose delight is the law of the Lord

and who ponders his law day and night.

He is like a tree that is planted

beside the flowing waters,

that yields its fruit in due season

and whose leaves shall never fade;

and all that he does shall prosper.

Not so are the wicked, not so!

For they like winnowed chaff

shall be driven away by the wind:

for the Lord guards the way of the just

but the way of the wicked leads to doom.

Gospel Matthew 11:16-19

They heed neither John nor the Son of Man

Jesus spoke to the crowds: ‘What description can I find for this generation? It is like children shouting to each other as they sit in the market place:

“We played the pipes for you,

and you wouldn’t dance;

we sang dirges,

and you wouldn’t be mourners.”

‘For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, “He is possessed.” The Son of Man came, eating and drinking, and they say, “Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” Yet wisdom has been proved right by her actions.’

Reflection
Isaiah 48: 17-19, Matthew 11: 16-19

“Does it matter?”
“For John came, neither eating nor drinking, and they say, “He is possessed.” The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and they say, “Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.”” John the Baptist and Jesus were regarded as a possessed, a glutton, a drunkard even though their whole lives were dedicated to bring the Kingdom of justice and love into their society.The truth is that we cannot please anyone. In the eyes of some, we might be a saint. In the eyes of others, we might be the world´s greatest sinner. Thus, we need to accept that we cannot control the way others regard us. No matter the opinions of others, we must never stop doing what is good, what is just and what is loving.

Question for reflection:
Do I tend to act and speak in order to get the good approvals of others, even if this means that I have to compromise on my values and beliefs?

Renungan
Yesaya 48: 17-19, Matius 11: 16-19

“Adakah ia penting?”
“Kerana Yohanes datang, ia tidak makan dan minum, dan mereka berkata: Ia kerasukan setan. Kemudian Anak Manusia datang, ia makan dan minum, dan mereka berkata: Lihatlah dia seorang pelahap dan peminum, sahabat pemungut cukai dan orang berdosa.” Yohanes Pembaptis dan Yesus dianggap kerasukan, pelahap, peminum walaupun seluruh kehidupan mereka didedikasikan untuk membawa Kerajaan keadilan dan kasih dalam masyarakat.
Kebenarannya adalah, kita tidak dapat menyenangkan hati semua orang. Bagi seseorang, kita kelihatan seperti seorang kudus. Namun di mata yang lain, kita mungkin dianggap seorang pendosa. Oleh kerana itu, kita perlu menerima bahawa kita tidak dapat mengawal tanggapan orang lain terhadap kita. Walau apapun pendapat orang lain, kita tidak seharusnya berhenti melakukan apa yang baik, adil dan kasih.
Soalan Renungan: :
Adakah saya cenderung bertindak dan berbicara untuk mendapatkan persetujuan dari orang lain, meskipun saya harus berkompromi dengan nilai dan kepercayaan saya?

Isaiah 48:17-19; Matthew 11:16-19

“Bisi ka nya beguna?”
Laban John datai ukai deka makai ngirup; tang ku sida, ‘Iya dirasuk antu!’ Anak Mensia datai, makai ngirup, tang ku sida, ‘Peda orang nya, bam, sereta pemabuk, bepangan enggau orang ke pengumpul chukai, enggau orang ke bedosa!’ John Pembaptisa enggau Jesus sama bela dikumbai orang ti dirasuk antu, bam, pemabok taja sepemanjai pengidup sida awak mai pengelurus enggau pengerindu perintah ngagai mensia mayuh. Ka pemendar, kitai enda ulih ngelantang ati semua orang. Ba mata sekeda kitai tampak orang Sante. Ba mata orang bukai, kitai tu orang pendosa ti besai.

Nya alai kitai patut nerima utai ti enda ulih diatur kitai pasal orang ka kitai. Nama aja runding orang bukai, kitai anang badu ngereja utai ti badas, ti lurus sereta pengerindu.

Bisi aku bejako sereta ngereja pengawa awak diterima orang bukai, taja utai nya belaban enggau penemu sereta pengarap aku?
