KINARUT – Jan 31, 2024 marked the official launching of the 25th anniversary celebration of Montfort Youth Training Centre (MYTC). This modest event was celebrated in conjunction with the 351st birthday of St Louis Marie de Montfort, the founder and patron saint.
The unveiling of the 25th anniversary logo was overseen by Archbishop John Wong, who had celebrated the Holy Mass jointly with Fathers Wilfred Atin, Andrew Kim, Lawrence Kim and Friar Cruzender in honour of this significant day.
The event was attended by the Montfortian Gabrielite Associates (MGA), all trainees, management, and staff of MYTC. Following the unveiling of the logo, the celebration continued with a fellowship lunch and the cutting of a birthday cake. The occasion was marked by a sense of nostalgia and gratitude.
As we celebrate the remarkable Silver Jubilee of MYTC this year, a series of community events and outreach programs will take place, culminating in the grand Montfort’s 25th Anniversary Charity Dinner set for Jun 15, 2024, at Magellan, Sutera Harbour Resort.
History of MYTC
MYTC was established by the Brothers of St Gabriel (BSG) in Jun 1999 as a vocational training institution and a welfare home to cater for the marginalized and impoverished youth aged between 16-20 years old from the interior of Sabah and Sarawak.
From its modest origin, MYTC started with very little resources and a few pioneering staffs in a 1.1 acre property of a single-level improvised structure that housed the first batch of 15 trainees in Donggongon, Penampang. Bro Edward Rayappan was the first Director and he was supported by Bro Xavier Francis Gasper and Bro Francis Chua and together they have expanded the mission’s reach to a wide audience, enhanced the standard and quality and transformed the institution into new heights.
Today, under the management of lay leadership, MYTC stands as a thriving institution located in Kinarut, Papar with the capacity to accommodate up to 182 trainees across two sites – the residential campus and the skill development campus – spanning a total of 10.67 acres.
The presence site of the campus now offered four vocational training courses namely Automotive, Welding, Facilities Maintenance & Carpentry and Oil Palm Plantation Conductorship. The trainees are trained in-house with full boarding facilities for two-year and provided with job placement service upon completion of their training.
The Institution also manages two rural hostels i.e. San Damiano Boys Hostel (SDBH) in Kiulu and St Mary’s Youth Hostel (SMYH) in Sandakan reserved for school going students at the of age 13-18 years old.
MYTC intake is in July every year. But we accept application and conduct admission interview throughout the year.
