Recipients of food bags from Sacred Heart Cathedral Caritas

KOTA KINABALU – Pope Francis says, “a Church without charity does not exist”. Caritas share the mission of the Church and it is an ordered service to the community inspired by Gospel values and the Catholic Social Teaching.
Caritas is a Latin word meaning love and compassion, the international symbol of Caritas is a flaming cross, symbolising Christ’s burning love for his people.
With the current crisis at hand and in response, Sacred Heart Parish Caritas Committee members started the Help the Needy Drive Jul 8. This mission is to assist the poor families and needy to survive during this challenging time of the pandemic.
The committee members, volunteers and respective parishes in the Archdioecese of Kota Kinabalu have collected data from respondents and other resources. Currently, the identified are Filipino, Indonesian migrant individuals and local families from in and around Kota Kinabalu and also outstation parishes. All collected information helps us to better understand and respond to ongoing needs, which may also help us to plan and propose better solutions in the future.
With the assistance from volunteers and cooperation with other private companies, a total of 1,235 food bags have been distributed to all listed recipients amidst the current unprecedented pandemic crisis as of Jul 18.
The impact of COVID-19 towards everyone in every aspect and the anticipated lengthy duration of the pandemic will be devastating. There is not yet an end in sight to this current pandemic crisis and sustained effort is needed.
Let us in turn, bring joy of the Good News to all and show the caring face of God to others through our actions.
For those who wish to help, all non perishable Food items donations can be sent to our collection centre at Room B4, Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish Centre from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm daily. These donated items will be collected and distributed later to eligible recipients who are in need of immediate assistance.
