Cardinal Chow: HK ialah ‘Gereja Jambatan’ untuk China dan dunia

Uskup Hong Kong, Kardinal Stephan Chow Sau-yan telah mengulangi komitmennya untuk menjadikan keuskupannya sebagai ‘gereja jambatan’ yang menghubungkan gereja di China dan dunia.

“Gereja di Hong Kong adalah gereja jambatan,” kata Chow pada 4 Nov, semasa bercakap kepada media selepas Misa pertamanya di bandar itu selepas Bapa Suci Fransiskus menjadikannya kardinal pada 30 September.

“Ini bermakna kita berhubung dengan Gereja di China, dengan Keuskupan Agung Beijing di China. Itu penting, kerana kita mengenali antara satu sama lain, bahawa kita wujud,” jelasnya.

Video ringkas ucapannya kepada media telah disiarkan oleh Sunday Examiner, penerbitan rasmi Keuskupan Hong Kong.

Chow menjawab pertanyaan akhbar mengenai keutamaannya sebagai uskup bekas jajahan British yang bermasalah politik dan usahanya untuk mengurangkan jurang antara gereja di China dan dunia.

Beliau berkata sebagai sebahagian daripada misi keuskupan Hong Kong untuk menjadi “gereja jambatan” beliau melawat Keuskupan Agung Beijing di tanah besar China pada 17-21 Apr untuk membangunkan hubungan dan pertukaran.

Lawatan Chow ke Beijing mendapat perhatian media yang ketara kerana ia merupakan lawatan pertama seorang uskup Hong Kong sejak penyerahan pulau itu oleh British kepada China pada 1997.

“Saya pergi ke Beijing untuk membangunkan hubungan, hubungan manusia. Kita mulakan dengan kemanusiaan dahulu. Segala-galanya bermula dengan kemanusiaan, bukan dengan struktur atau dasar, tetapi hubungan manusia,” katanya.

“Kali ini Uskup Agung Li Shan akan melawat Hong Kong, dan ini juga mengesahkan hubungan manusia,” kata Chow, merujuk kepada lawatan lima hari akan datang Uskup Agung Beijing Li ke Hong Kong mulai 14 Nov.

“Dengan hubungan ini, kita boleh bekerjasama. Kita boleh bercakap tentang bagaimana untuk mengukuhkan struktur, bagaimana untuk membuat beberapa dasar, malah dasar kemanusiaan, dalam jangka panjang. Ini adalah bagaimana kita boleh membantu satu sama lain untuk menyaksikan cinta Tuhan,” tambahnya.

Semasa lawatan itu, Uskup Agung Li akan bertemu dengan Uskup Chow dan pejabat keuskupan berbeza untuk mempromosikan pertukaran dan interaksi antara kedua-dua keuskupan, kata keuskupan Hong Kong dalam satu notis.

Lawatan beliau berikutan pengetatan kebebasan dan hak China di Hong Kong sejak Beijing mengenakan Undang-undang Keselamatan Negara yang menindas untuk menghancurkan gerakan pro-demokrasi yang kuat.

Ia juga berlaku pada masa di tengah-tengah ketegangan antara Vatikan dan Beijing mengenai perjanjian Sino-Vatikan 2018 mengenai pelantikan uskup Katolik di negara itu. Pada mulanya ditandatangani selama dua tahun, perjanjian itu diperbaharui dua kali pada 2020 dan 2022, setiap kali selama dua tahun.

Walaupun perjanjian itu tidak pernah didedahkan kepada umum, ia dilaporkan membenarkan kedua-dua pihak menerima atau menolak calon uskup. Beberapa tahun lalu, beberapa uskup telah dilantik dan ditabalkan di China melalui persetujuan bersama.

Bagaimanapun, baru-baru ini Vatikan telah menuduh Beijing melanggar perjanjian dengan memasang seorang uskup dan memindahkan seorang lagi secara unilateral.

China memutuskan hubungan diplomatik dengan Vatikan berikutan pengambilalihan komunis lebih tujuh dekad lalu. Berjuta-juta penganut Katolik negara komunis itu telah berpecah antara gereja patriotik yang dikawal negara dan gereja bawah tanah yang berjanji setia kepada Bapa Suci.

Kumpulan hak asasi manusia telah melaporkan tindakan keras semula terhadap gereja bawah tanah dan kumpulan agama lain yang tidak diiktiraf di China sejak kebelakangan ini.

Selama bertahun-tahun, pelantikan uskup dan tadbir urus gereja telah menjadi isu perbalahan bagi Vatikan dan China.

Pakar berkata, dengan perjanjian itu Vatikan berusaha untuk mewujudkan hubungan diplomatik rasmi dengan negara yang diperintah komunis itu.

Pengkritik perjanjian itu mendakwa Vatikan telah mengkhianati umat Katolik bawah tanah dengan memanaskan hubungan dengan rejim komunis.

Bapa Suci Fransiskus berkata walaupun terdapat halangan, Vatikan akan meneruskan dialog dengan China.
