Caritas Malaysia and the Catholic Bishops of Malaysia is appealing and urging all Malaysian Catholics to make a generous donation to provide urgent financial support to the countries that has been affected by the natural calamities such as Indonesia, Philippines, Pakistan and countries that has been struck by political and economic crisis in Sri Lanka and Ukraine.
Cianjur-West Java Earthquake
The earthquake on 21st November 2022 at West Indonesia impacting in death, missing, injured and displaced individuals with the loss and damaged houses, education facilities, offices, healthcare and religious buildings in 169 villages across West Indonesia. Food, shelter kits, water, health services and medicine are urgently needed for the survivors of the Cianjur earthquake.
Flooding in Northern Mindanao
Intense rain was experienced across Mindanao has brought a heavy effect on the areas resulted to flooding on 24 December 2022 causing damages to the community infrastructure, livelihoods and casualties. As of December 31, 2022, there are 524,150 individuals were affected in 151 Evacuation Centers.
The worsening political and economic crisis in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is suffering months of blackouts and calamitous shortages of food, fuel and medicines in its worsening economic environment. This had sparked two months of overwhelming anti-government demonstrations since April 2022. The economic crisis has begun to affect the healthcare system with critical medicines running out of short supplies in want of hard currency to import essential medical supplies.
Dry rations such as rice, sugar, lentils, dry fish, flour, green gram, soya meat, tin fish, and spices is being distributed to the most vulnerable and affected families.
