Ucapan Uskup Agung John Wong sempena Hari Migran dan Perantau Sedunia 2020

Saudara saudari, para migran dan perantau di Keuskupan Agung ini.

Enam bulan yang lalu, krisis pandemik Covid-19 mulai dialami di negara ini. Untuk membendung krisis itu, Kerajaan Malaysia mengenakan Perintah Kawalan Pergerakan (PKP), dengan harapan untuk mematahkan rantai jangkitan virus korona yang bahaya itu. Salah satu ketetapan dalam PKP ialah semua kegiatan di rumah-rumah ibadah harus ditiadakan. Umat hanya boleh mengadakan ibadah dalam rumah masing-masing.

Namun, sejak bulan Julai yang lalu, Kerajaan telah membenarkan ibadah diadakan semula di semua rumah-rumah ibadat. Tetapi, atas sebab-sebab yang tertentu, warga asing masih tidak dibenarkan menyertai ibadah-ibadah itu.

Ketetapan itu menyedihkan kami sebab saya tahu ramai di antara umat Migran merindu untuk menerima Tubuh Kristus. Gereja tidak punya pilihan lain dan terpaksa mematuhi kepada SOP yang ditetapkan. Dalam hal ini, bagi pihak Gereja lokal, saya mohon maaf kerana anda semua atas kesulitan ini.

Walau bagaimana pun, baru-baru ini, Kerajaan mulai membenarkan warga asing di negara ini untuk menyertai upacara-upacara ibadah dengan syarat mereka harus mempunyai dokumen untuk memudahkan “contact tracing” atau mengesankan kenalan-kenalan jika terdapat kes covid-19.

Pengumuman yang terbaru ini sangat menggembirakan kami. Maka dengan ini, saya merayu kepada anda semua untuk datang dan sertai Misa di gereja-gereja Katolik yang terdekat dengan kediaman kamu.

Semasa PKP dikuatkuasakan, saya dimaklumkan bahawa ramai di antara kamu telah menghadapi bermacam-macam rintangan dan kesulitan. Ada yang dihentikan kerja, ada juga dikurangkan gaji, ada yang tidak punya bekalan dapur, dan ramai yang hidup dalam kebimbangan situasi hidup yang tidak menentu. Saya juga bersimpati dengan mereka yang ditangkap kerana pas kerja mereka mati masa pandemik ini.

Sebagai Gereja, kami cuba membantu meringankan kesulitan kamu melalui pengedaran barangan dapur di beberapa kawasan. Hampir 1,400 keluarga migran telah menerima bantuan kami yang sederhana itu.

Walau pun demikian, syukur kerana hingga hari ini kamu masih dapat bertahan dan sabar menghadapi kesemua rintangan dan hambatan. Usaha kamu saling mendukung dan memperhatikan iman dan kebajikan sesama amatlah dipuji. Ketabahan kamu itu patut dicontohi oleh penduduk temptan. Saya yakin Tuhan pasti akan terus melindungi dan meneguhkan semangat ketabahan kamu.

 

Saudara saudari,

Tema perayaan Hari Migran dan Perantau tahun ini ialah “Dipaksa melarikan diri seperti Yesus”. Tema ini diilhamkan oleh kehidupan Tuhan Yesus sendiri. Sejak kecil dia sudah berada dalam keadaan yang sulit, sebagai seorang pelarian. Bersama dengan ibubapaNya, dia terpaksa melarikan diri ke Mesir kerana diburu oleh Raja Herodes.

Kehidupan kita di bumi merupakan suatu perjalanan untuk membina diri dan keluarga menurut kemampuan dan pilihan masing-masing. Tetapi kadangkala disebabkan oleh keadaan kemiskinan, ada yang terdorong untuk merantau ke negara lain untuk membina hidup yang lebih selesa bagi diri dan keluarga. Ada pula yang terpaksa melarikan diri kerana terdapat penindasan dan ancaman di negara asal.

Atas apa saja alasan yang menyebabkan seseorang merantau di bumi ini, selaku Ibu dan Guru kepada semua insan, Gereja sentiasa bersedia menghulurkan tangannya, kerana setiap insan itu berharga di mata Tuhan.

Justeru itu, untuk kamu yang mencari nafkah hidup di negeri ini, anggaplah Gereja lokal komunitas kamu. Jangan segan untuk melibatkan diri dalam kegiatan Gereja, Kongsikanlah kemahiran, talenta, tenaga dan masa lapang kamu demi pembangunan komuniti paroki kamu di sini.

Pada masa yang sama, pastikanlah kamu menjadi keluarga dan buruh migran yang hidup bermartabat, aman dan legal. Dengan kata lain, patuhilah undang-undang negara ini, bekerjalah dengan rajin dan bertanggungjawab. Jika kamu dapat buat demikian, kamu tidak perlu merasa takut dengan pihak-pihak mana sebab kamu bukan penjenayah. Malahan kehadiran kamu akan menyumbangkan kepada perkembangan sosio-ekonomi negeri ini.

Semoga perayaan Hari Migran dan Perantau Sedunia pada tahun ini lebih mendekati kamu dengan penduduk tempatan.
