LIMBANG — On a clear June Sunday evening, nearly 2,000 faithful gathered solemnly at St Edmund’s Church to commemorate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi — a profound celebration of the Church’s unwavering reverence for the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.
The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Rev Fr Henry Saleh, who served as the main celebrant at the Mass held at St Edmund’s Church on Jun 22.
The faithful came not only from Limbang town itself, but from all corners of Limbang division, as far as Lawas. There was a profound sense of unity and community intoned in prayer and worship.
In his homily, Fr Henry gently reminded the faithful of the central mystery of our faith: that Christ is truly present—Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity—in the Eucharist. The evening’s solemn procession is to bear witness to this sacred truth.
Following the Mass, the people gathered in the Church compound for the procession. The Blessed Sacrament was placed reverently under a golden canopy by Fr Henry.
As the sun began its setting over Limbang town, Fr Henry led the faithful in a measured, prayerful procession through the tranquil streets of Limbang, spanning 4.5 kms.
Hymns such as Anima Christi and Ubi Caritas Est were intoned softly by the faithful. The Rosary was prayed with deep devotion, interspersed with moments of profound silence, allowing hearts and minds to contemplate the mystery of Christ dwelling among His people.
The procession was not merely a march through the streets but a sacred mission — an act of bringing Christ visibly and spiritually into the very fabric of the Limbang community.
“This was more than a procession — it was a mission,” shared one parishioner in quiet reflection. “As we carried Jesus through Limbang’s streets, we renewed our own faith and reminded ourselves that God is truly present among us, always.”
The procession concluded back at St Edmund’s Church with a final Benediction and a heartfelt moment of thanksgiving. Many expressed deep gratitude for the grace of this public witness, especially since this was the first Corpus Christi procession in Limbang post- COVID.
This year’s celebration stood as a solemn testament to faith, unity, and the abiding presence of Christ at the heart of Limbang — a tranquil town stirred by the sacred mystery of the Eucharist. To God be the glory! – Today’s Catholic
