Caritas Jerusalem has delivered 10,000 cans of infant formula to Gaza in the days following the signing of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The initiative marks one of the first large-scale humanitarian actions since the ceasefire was declared, offering immediate relief to vulnerable families devastated by months of conflict.
Aid delivery
The distribution, carried out through Caritas’ network of medical points across the Gaza Strip, prioritised infants and young children whose access to basic nutrition had been critically disrupted during the war.
The formula supplies were delivered by Caritas medical teams operating in different areas and aiming to reach malnourished children and mothers struggling to feed their children.
Anton Asfar, Secretary General of Caritas Jerusalem, emphasised the organisation’s mission to uphold human dignity and protect the most vulnerable and said, “From the very first day after the war, our teams have been working tirelessly to support the people of Gaza, especially the most fragile, children, mothers, and the elderly. Delivering infant formula was not only about food, but about restoring life and hope.”
A beacon of hope
As a result of the two-year war, many families had been left for months without access to clean water, medical care, or nutrition for their children. Amidst these enormous challenges, Caritas Jerusalem is committed to remaining close to the people, providing not only essential sustenance but a renewed sense of hope for communities beginning the slow journey toward recovery.
In southern Gaza, Caritas Jerusalem offers primary health care, psychosocial support, and emergency relief to displaced and affected families. It works in close coordination with local health authorities and Church partners to ensure humanitarian aid is delivered through secure and accessible corridors. – Vatican News
