KAJANG – Catholic migrants from Indonesia, Africa, Vietnam and Myanmar joined parishioners at the Church of the Holy Family for Migrant Sunday Mass on Sep 20. Their participation in the 9.30am celebration gave expression to the many cultures that make up the parish community.
The celebration echoed the theme of the 112th World Day of Migrants and Refugees, Even Just One of These Children (cf. Mt 18:10). In his message, Pope Leo XIV draws attention to the dignity of migrant and refugee children and the responsibility to welcome and protect them.
The Holy Family’s flight into Egypt offered a reminder of what it means to leave home in search of safety. It invited parishioners to see the needs of families seeking refuge, especially children who long for a place where they can feel secure and welcome.
After Mass, representatives of the Archdiocesan Office for Human Development (AOHD) and UNHCR briefed refugees on the Refugee Medical Insurance (REMEDI) Programme and access to more affordable healthcare through insurance coverage. Fellowship and a sharing of gifts followed, giving parishioners and guests further time together.
The parish thanked its clergy Fr Michael Chua, Fr Bonaventure Rayappan, the Parish Coordinating Council, AOHD, UNHCR, volunteers and benefactors who helped make the celebration possible.
Migrant Sunday offered a simple hope for the parish: that every family who comes through its doors will find friendship, care and a place to belong. – Herald Malaysia
