PERAK – Parish priest, Fr Simon Anand, and his team have embarked to fully air-condition the historic Church of the Sacred Heart in Kampar, Perak.
Work began on Jun 15 and is expected to take three to three-and-a-half months to complete. During this period, the church building will be temporarily closed to facilitate the installation of three 30HP rooftop air-conditioning units with ceiling-mounted ducting. The project also includes the construction of reinforced concrete slabs for the compressors, electrical wiring, and other related infrastructure works.
Fr Simon has informed parishioners that all Masses and other spiritual activities will be held at the adjacent Mercy Hall while the upgrading works are underway.
He explained that the project is an important investment in the future of the parish, aimed at creating a more welcoming and prayerful environment for both present and future generations. Despite the use of wall-mounted fans, many parishioners have found the church increasingly uncomfortable, particularly during late morning and afternoon celebrations. Some have shared that the intense heat makes it difficult to concentrate fully during Mass and other liturgical services.
While the parish has already raised part of the required funds, additional financial support is still needed to complete the project. Fr Simon has appealed to parishioners, benefactors, and visitors to contribute towards the initiative, noting that the improvements will benefit all who gather at the church for worship and community life. – Herald Malaysia
