KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah Interdenominational Education Committee (SiEC), a Functional Committee of the Sabah Council of Churches, is organising a State-Level STEAM Competition for primary and secondary schools across Sabah. The competition, held in collaboration with the Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Sabah, aims to promote scientific understanding, creativity, innovation, and teamwork in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).
The competition has attracted significant participation, with 43 groups from 19 secondary schools and 13 groups from 11 primary schools throughout Sabah taking part. An estimated 280 students are expected to showcase their projects during the Onsite Exhibition for assessment, which will be held at the All Saints Secondary School Hall in Likas on 18 July 2026, from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm. The Prize Giving Ceremony will follow at 3.00 pm on the same day.
The Onsite Exhibition will be open to the public as well as primary and secondary schools in Kota Kinabalu, offering an opportunity for the wider community to witness the creativity and innovation of Sabah’s young minds.
SiEC is tasked with the mission to Build, Advance, Strengthen and Empower (BASE) the holistic development of the Next Generation in Sabah through schools and education. This competition reflects that commitment by providing a platform for students to apply their knowledge in STEAM fields through hands-on projects.
The project preparation runs from 1 to 30 June 2026, with the Onsite Exhibition serving as the culmination of the students’ efforts. The collaboration with the Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Sabah underscores the importance of co-curricular activities in fostering well-rounded education.
