KOTA KINABALU – 13 October 2021 was a red-letter day for the second community of the Sacred Heart Cathedral Neo-catechumenal Way as they celebrated the 25th anniversary of their formation.
The Second Neo-catechumenal Community of Sacred Heart was formed on 13 October 1996 after the initial catechesis.
To mark their anniversary, they celebrated with a beautiful Eucharist at the SHC Parish Centre which was presided by Fr Paul Lo, parish priest of the Cathedral parish, together with Fathers Saimon William and Joshua Liew. Joining in the celebration were the representatives of the diocesan catechist of the Way, Edward Muthu and spouse.
In his homily, Fr Paul said that the community can do nothing but to give thanks to God for the many years He has given to them in their journey of faith through the community and for the many fruits it has produced. He urged them to continue to see God’s faithfulness in them despite the current situation and the many sufferings they endure in life.
The Neo-catechumenal Way is a post baptismal catechumenate that helps those who are joining the Way to deepen their faith by living a life of conversion through the weekly celebrations of the Word and Eucharist, as well as the monthly Convivence and the various stages of faith formation.
Gradually this will lead to their renewal of baptism. The members of the Second Community of Sacred Heart has done their public profession of faith in the Cathedral in 2016 and thereafter, they have received their pastoral assignments from the parish priest to help the parish. Currently, some serve as EMCs, Sunday School teachers, and others are involved in ministries like praying for the dead and visiting the sick.
After the Eucharist, the community continued the celebration with a banquet which was graced by Archbishop John Wong.
