First reading Jeremiah 18:18-20

My enemies are digging a pit for me

‘Come on,’ they said, ‘let us concoct a plot against Jeremiah; the priest will not run short of instruction without him, nor the sage of advice, nor the prophet of the word. Come on, let us hit at him with his own tongue; let us listen carefully to every word he says.’

Listen to me, O Lord,

hear what my adversaries are saying.

Should evil be returned for good?

For they are digging a pit for me.

Remember how I stood in your presence

to plead on their behalf,

to turn your wrath away from them.

Responsorial Psalm 30(31):5-6,14-16

Save me in your love, O Lord.

Release me from the snares they have hidden

for you are my refuge, Lord.

Into your hands I commend my spirit.

It is you who will redeem me, Lord.

I have heard the slander of the crowd,

fear is all around me,

as they plot together against me,

as they plan to take my life.

But as for me, I trust in you, Lord;

I say: ‘You are my God.

My life is in your hands, deliver me

from the hands of those who hate me.’

They will condemn the Son of Man to death

Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, and on the way he took the Twelve to one side and said to them, ‘Now we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man is about to be handed over to the chief priests and scribes. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the pagans to be mocked and scourged and crucified; and on the third day he will rise again.’

Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came with her sons to make a request of him, and bowed low; and he said to her, ‘What is it you want?’ She said to him, ‘Promise that these two sons of mine may sit one at your right hand and the other at your left in your kingdom.’ ‘You do not know what you are asking’ Jesus answered. ‘Can you drink the cup that I am going to drink?’ They replied, ‘We can.’ ‘Very well,’ he said ‘you shall drink my cup, but as for seats at my right hand and my left, these are not mine to grant; they belong to those to whom they have been allotted by my Father.’

When the other ten heard this they were indignant with the two brothers. But Jesus called them to him and said, ‘You know that among the pagans the rulers lord it over them, and their great men make their authority felt. This is not to happen among you. No; anyone who wants to be great among you must be your servant, and anyone who wants to be first among you must be your slave, just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’

Reflection
Jeremiah 18:18-20, Matthew 20:17-28

“Can you drink this cup?”
Jesus came to reveal the heart of God’s merciful and loving heart. He did it through His actions and words. However, the majority of the religious leaders did not accept His teachings and saw His raising popularity with the people as a threat to their authority. Therefore, Jesus knew that He would soon face death as a consequence of His mission to love. The disciples, on the other hand, could not understand when Jesus spoke about his imminent death. They were more concerned with having the top places.

To James and John, Jesus asked, “Can you drink the cup that I am going to drink?” The cup that He was referring to is the cup of sacrifice, the cup of humiliation, the cup of being vulnerable, the cup of lowliness, not of power, honour and glory. Today, can we drink this same cup of Jesus? If the answer is yes, it implies that we need to walk the path of love, by going beyond ourselves for the sake of others.

Question for reflection:
Do I want to drink the cup that Jesus is offering?

Yeremia 18:18-20, Matius 20:17-28

“Dapatkah kamu minum dari cawan ini?”
Yesus datang untuk mengungkapkan hati Tuhan yang penuh belas kasihan dan mengasihi. Dia melakukannya melalui perbuatan dan perkataanNya. Namun, majoriti pemimpin agama tidak menerima ajaran-Nya dan melihat populariti Yesus yang meningkat dalam kalangan masyarakat sebagai ancaman kepada kewibawaan mereka. Oleh kerana itu, Yesus mengetahui bahawa Dia akan segera berhadapan dengan kematian sebagai akibat dari misi-Nya untuk mengasihi. Sebaliknya, murid-murid Yesus tidak dapat memahami ketika Yesus berbicara tentang kematian-Nya yang akan segera tiba. Mereka lebih berminat untuk mendapat tempat teratas.

Yesus bertanya kepada Yakobus dan Yohanes, “Dapatkah kamu meminum cawan yang harus Ku minum?” Cawan yang dimaksudkan Yesus adalah pengorbanan, penghinaan, kelemahan, kerendahan diri, bukannya kuasa, hormat dan kemuliaan. Hari ini, dapatkah kita minum cawan yang sama Yesus ini? Jika jawapan kita Ya, ini menyatakan bahawa kita perlu berjalan di jalan kasih, dengan melampaui diri sendiri demi orang lain.

Adakah saya mahu minum cawan yang ditawarkan Yesus?

“Ulih nuan ngirup ari mangkuk tu?”
Jesus datai ngambi mandangka ati Allah Taala ti bepengasih sereta rindu. Iya mandang nya nengah pengawa enggau jako ajar Iya. Tang, sida pemesai pengarap bansa Judah enggai nerima ajar Iya lalu meda mayuh orang ngasika utai ti diajar Jesus. Nyq kebuah, Jesus nemu Iya enda lama agi deka ukum mati laban pengawa pengerindu ti dipejalaika Iya. Tang bala Murid, enda ulih mereti ka jako Jesus pasal pemati Iya. Sida lebih agi begiga ka sapa ti patut duduk ba kerusi ti pemadu tinggi.

Ko Jesus nanya James enggau John, “Kati nuan ulih ngirup ari mangkuk ti dikena aku?” Mangkuk ti disebut Iya nya pasal mangkuk nyerah diri, pemalu, pengelemi, mangkuk baruh ati, ukai kuasa, ukai dipebasa tauka dimuliaka. Saritu, ulih kitai ngirup ari mangkuk Jesus? Enti kitai nyaut sanggup, kitai deka bejalai ba jalai pengerindu, bejalai jauh agi ari ulih kitai ketegal orang bukai.

Bisi aku deka ngirup ari mangkuk Jesus?

省思
«耶十八:18-20»
«玛廿:17-28»

” 你可以饮这爵吗？”

耶稣来展现天主的慈悲及大爱。祂以言以行, 然而，大多数的宗教领袖不接受祂的教导，觉得祂日益渐增的声望对他们的权威有所威胁。因此，耶稣知道祂面临的死亡是祂传扬爱的福音所造成的。另一方面，祂的门徒不明白当耶稣叙述祂即将来临的意思。他们更关心权贵的问题。
耶稣对载伯德和若望说：你们能饮我将要饮的爵吗？这爵意味什么呢？牺牲、屈辱、被人伤害、谦卑，而不是权力、榮譽、光荣。今天我们能否饮和耶稣相似的爵呢？如答案是“是”，那意味着我们选择以爱为出发点，跨越自己去为他人着想。

省思题：
我要饮耶稣赐给我的爵吗？
