THIS year the Feast of Divine Mercy Sunday was celebrated on Apr 24. For the first time since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the Apostolate of Divine Mercy at Sacred Heart Cathedral celebrated the feast with a physical attendance at Mass after a two-year hiatus.
It was a day of special significance for all Divine Mercy devotees who were able to come and celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy Sunday in person and avail Jesus’ promise “that the soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion will obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment”. (699)
Jesus said to Saint Faustina, “The Feast of Divine Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. It is my desire that ii be solemnly celebrated on the First Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy”. (699)
The institution of the Feast of Mercy emphasizes the source and gift of Mercy and Love through Christ’s passion and resurrection for indeed there would not have been the work of redemption had it not been for God’s Mercy.
Following Mass, the devotees gathered at the Sacred Heart parish Centre for a time of devotional – the Chaplet prayer and the Litany of the Divine Mercy was recited in two languages, Bahasa Malaysia and English.
Alex Tham, head coordinator of the Apostolate of Divine Mercy of Sacred Heart Cathedral, welcomed the devotees and acknowledged that it was God’s love and mercy that have enabled them to be able to come together again to celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy Sunday.
He reflected with them messages of Divine Mercy, reminding that for one to fittingly observe the Feast of Mercy, besides receiving Holy Communion on that day and going to Confession, one should also be merciful to others, through our actions, words and prayers.
The devotees were also able to experience a time of great joy celebrating together in person again over a simple lunch at the canteen. But the ultimate joy was to experience the power of Christ’s resurrection from the dead. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. Jesus King of Mercy, I trust in You!
