Pope Francis has written the preface to a book by Father Enzo Fortunato and Aldo Cagnoli entitled “The Children’s Encyclical. Re-educating the world of adults” and published by San Paolo, which will be presented on Sunday, 29 October, in Rome.
In his preface, the Pope underscores the urgent need for a transformative response to environmental issues, emphasizing the importance of addressing ecological problems in conjunction with broader ethical, cultural, and spiritual challenges.
He emphasizes the interconnectedness of social justice and environmental stewardship, and calls for a shift in consumption and production models.
The Pope also encourages dialogue between generations and a shared commitment to safeguarding the planet for future generations.
The book itself, dedicated to children, addresses the theme of ecology and the importance of caring for the planet and all Creation.
The first part is addressed to adults through four key words – inherit, connect, share and give. The aim is to sensitise adults and explain to them how important it is to educate children to care for and respect the planet, defined in the Encyclical as “our common home”.
The second part addresses children directly through an illustrated story divided into four chapters. The book teaches how nature is a precious good for all and that love and forgiveness are stronger than hatred and revenge. – Vatican News
