JUSOOR, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities to Syrian refugees worldwide, was honored with the Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Social Justice.
The organization’s commitment to “maximizing the potential of Syrian children and young people affected by war and displacement through education and social advancement” was highlighted in the award citation presented by the Harmony Foundation during the ceremony on Nov 10 in Mumbai.
Harmony Foundation established the award in 2005 in honor of Saint Teresa of Calcutta.
In a report by AsiaNews, Jusoor’s executive director, Khaled Abu Ajwa, expressed gratitude for the recognition, noting that it “is not only for Jusoor, but for the countless displaced children whose resilience and determination inspire us every day in Lebanon, the Middle East, and around the world.”
Reflecting on the hardships faced by children in war-torn Syria, he added, “They remind us that even in the face of adversity, dreams and hope can thrive.”
The Syrian conflict, now in its thirteenth year, has triggered widespread displacement, with 7.2 million Syrians internally displaced and 5 million refugees in neighboring countries, including approximately 1.5 million in Lebanon.
