KRISMAS 2020 akan berlangsung dalam masa yang paling luar biasa. Dengan peningkatan jumlah jangkitan COVID-19 dan protokol kesihatan yang wajib, tempat duduk gereja yang biasanya akan penuh kini hanya akan diisi dengan jumlah umat yang terhad.

Dalam Pesan Krismas 2020 yang baru dikeluarkan, Uskup Sandakan Julius Gitom meratap, “Hanya sedikit yang meramalkan bahawa pandemik COVID-19 ini akan mengalami kehancuran yang berpanjangan, kekacauan dan kekeliruan dalam kehidupan seharian kita – kehidupan ekonomi dan sosial kita. Kita pasti tidak meramalkan bahawa gereja-gereja yang kosong semasa perayaan Paska pada bulan April lalu akan menjadi paparan permandangan perayaan Krismas lagi pada tahun ini.

Prelatus Sandakan berkata “Mereka yang boleh diterima masuk untuk menyertai Misa Krismas, memenuhi kewajiban keagamaan kita pada hari Krismas tidak akan menjadi urusan biasa. SOP yang ketat seperti penjarakan fizikal/sosial dan lain-lain sekatan harus dipatuhi. Dan bagi sebilangan besar dari kita, doa kita akan berlaku dan terhad hanya di rumah dan secara maya seperti sudah menjadi amalan “norma baharu” di Gereja masa kini.”

Tambahnya, “perayaan di peringkat komuniti tidak akan dapat dilakukan dalam keadaan sekarang dan bahkan perayaan Krismas keluarga hanya terhad kepada ahli keluarga terdekat sahaja.”

Di tengah-tengah “norma baharu” ini serta ketidakpastian, kekecewaan, kehancuran, dan kebingungan hidup, prelatus berkata kita boleh bersikap optimis terhadap masa depan dan berharap agar hari esok menjadi lebih baik!

Dalam menyeru kaum beriman untuk “kuatkan iman kerana kita yakin akan kehadiran Tuhan dalam hidup kita,” Uskup Julius mengongsikan harapan yang dipetik dari Injil pada pagi Krismas yang berkata, “Pada mulanya adalah Firman; Firman itu bersama-sama dengan Allah dan Firman itu adalah Allah … Firman itu telah menjadi manusia, dan diam di antara kita” (ruj. Yoh. 1:1-14).

Dia berkata “Ini menjadi penghiburan besar untuk mengetahui bahawa Tuhan dan penyelamat kita tinggal di antara umatNya! Allah yang Ilahi dan Maha Suci telah menjadi salah satu daripada kita. Dengan cara ini, Yesus, Firman Allah yang menjelma berkongsi semua yang kita ada; emosi kita – kegembiraan kita, ketakutan kita, perjuangan kita – ringkasnya, Dia tahu keadaan kita dan berkongsi kisah kita sebagai manusia.

“Sesungguhnya, Firman Tuhan tetap tinggal di antara kita; Dia adalah Emmanuel – Tuhan beserta kita (ruj. Wahyu 21:3). Anak Allah berada di tengah-tengah kita bukan hanya memberi kita keyakinan dan harapan kepadaNya tetapi juga lebih penting lagi untuk menyatukan kita menjadi satu tubuh (lih. Kol 3:15) yang benar-benar menggambarkan komuniti Kristian beriman.”

Uskup Julius mengulangi, bahawa Dia yang tinggal di antara kita, memanggil kita agar bersikap penyayang, berbelaskasih dan sedia menghulurkan tangan untuk membantu mereka yang memerlukan, terutamanya yang terkesan dari segi kewangan dan sosial akibat COVID-19 agar mereka dapat berdikari dan meneruskan kehidupan. Seperti kata Santo Paulus, “Semuanya itu harus dipergunakan untuk membangun masyarakat” (1 Kor. 14:26).

Mengakui bahawa ramai umat Kristian di seluruh dunia merayakan Krismas tahun ini tanpa kemungkinan menerima Komuni Suci secara fizikal dan tanpa kemungkinan merayakan Krismas sebagai komuniti di Gereja seperti yang biasa kita lakukan, prelatus memberi penghiburan kepada kaum beriman dan mengingatkan mereka bahawa “kita masih dapat bersatu dengan Tuhan secara rohani.”

Dengan penuh harapan, Uskup Julius mendoakan agar “krisis ini menjadi satu berkat dalam samaran; ada lebih banyak masa untuk kita, sebagai individu dan keluarga, untuk merenung dengan mendalam bahawa Kristus yang dilahirkan di palungan di Betlehem kini dilahirkan dalam keluarga dan setiap hati kita.”

Dia menyamakan “kegelapan malam di Betlehem” kepada “kegelapan krisis pandemik ini”, dan dengan “cahaya kelahiran Sang Penyelamat akan bersinar terang seperti matahari”, dengan kelahiran Yesus, ada sinar harapan baru ketika kita menjalani kehidupan kita dalam terang iman. Dengan kelahiran Kristus Yesus di dalam hati kita, hari esok akan lebih cerah untuk kita semua.” (Teks lengkap Pesan Krismas 2020 di bawah)
