First reading Jeremiah 17:5-10

A curse on the man who puts his trust in man and turns from the Lord

The Lord says this:

‘A curse on the man who puts his trust in man,

who relies on things of flesh,

whose heart turns from the Lord.

He is like dry scrub in the wastelands:

if good comes, he has no eyes for it,

he settles in the parched places of the wilderness,

a salt land, uninhabited.

‘A blessing on the man who puts his trust in the Lord,

with the Lord for his hope.

He is like a tree by the waterside

that thrusts its roots to the stream:

when the heat comes it feels no alarm,

its foliage stays green;

it has no worries in a year of drought,

and never ceases to bear fruit.

‘The heart is more devious than any other thing,

perverse too: who can pierce its secrets?

I, the Lord, search to the heart,

I probe the loins,

to give each man what his conduct

and his actions deserve.’

Responsorial Psalm 1:1-4,6

Happy the man who has placed his trust in the Lord.

Happy indeed is the man

who follows not the counsel of the wicked;

nor lingers in the way of sinners

nor sits in the company of scorners,

but whose delight is the law of the Lord

and who ponders his law day and night.

He is like a tree that is planted

beside the flowing waters,

that yields its fruit in due season

and whose leaves shall never fade;

and all that he does shall prosper.

Not so are the wicked, not so!

For they like winnowed chaff

shall be driven away by the wind:

for the Lord guards the way of the just

but the way of the wicked leads to doom.

Dives and Lazarus

Jesus said to the Pharisees: ‘There was a rich man who used to dress in purple and fine linen and feast magnificently every day. And at his gate there lay a poor man called Lazarus, covered with sores, who longed to fill himself with the scraps that fell from the rich man’s table. Dogs even came and licked his sores. Now the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to the bosom of Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried.

‘In his torment in Hades he looked up and saw Abraham a long way off with Lazarus in his bosom. So he cried out, “Father Abraham, pity me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in agony in these flames.” “My son,” Abraham replied “remember that during your life good things came your way, just as bad things came the way of Lazarus. Now he is being comforted here while you are in agony. But that is not all: between us and you a great gulf has been fixed, to stop anyone, if he wanted to, crossing from our side to yours, and to stop any crossing from your side to ours.”

‘The rich man replied, “Father, I beg you then to send Lazarus to my father’s house, since I have five brothers, to give them warning so that they do not come to this place of torment too.” “They have Moses and the prophets,” said Abraham “let them listen to them.” “Ah no, father Abraham,” said the rich man “but if someone comes to them from the dead, they will repent.” Then Abraham said to him, “If they will not listen either to Moses or to the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone should rise from the dead.”’.

Reflection
Jeremiah 17:5-10, Luke 16:19-31

“To see the Lazarus of today”
What is to be rich according to Jesus? The message of the parable tells us the answer: To have a heart that loves. Love starts with noticing the needs and plight of others and continues by giving and helping them. The rich man in today’s gospel is the story of many of us. We, like the rich man, are self-absorbed with our concerns, ambitions, schedules and possessions that we do not notice the “Lazarus” around us who are in much greater need than we are.

This Lent, may we open our hearts to love by paying attention to the needs of others and to give of ourselves to show our care and kindness. The small acts of love can truly make a big difference to another person. Let us strive to be rich in the eyes of God today!

What is Jesus’ invitation to me as I pray with the challenging parable today?

Renungan
Yeremia 17:5-10, Lukas 16:19-31

“Melihat Lazarus hari ini”
Menurut Yesus, apakah erti menjadi kaya? Pesan dari perumpamaan ini memberitahu jawapannya. Memiliki hati yang mengasihi. Kasih bermula dengan memperhatikan keperluan dan penderitaan orang lain dan memberi serta membantu mereka secara berterusan. Pemuda kaya dalam injil hari ini adalah kisah bagi ramai di kalangan kita. Kita, sama seperti pemuda yang kaya dipenuhi dengan pelbagai kekuatiran, cita-cita, jadual dan harta benda sehingga kita tidak menyedari kewujudan “Lazarus” di sekitar kita yang sangat memerlukan berbanding kita.
Pada masa Prapaska ini, semoga kita membuka hati kita untuk mengasihi dengan memberi perhatian pada keperluan orang lain dan menunjukkan perhatian dan kebaikan kita kepada mereka. Perbuatan kasih yang kecil mampu membuat perubahan kepada orang lain. Marilah berusaha menjadi kaya di mata Tuhan hari ini!

Jeremiah 17:5-10; Luke 16:19-31

“Meda Lazarus ba kemaya hari tu.”
Nama reti nyadi kaya nitih ka ajar Jesus? Pesan ari Jako Sempama meri kitai saut: Ngembuan ati ti rindu. Rindu bepun lebuh kitai ulih merati ka utai ti dipeguna sereta penusah ti diasai orang bukai sereta meri bantu ka sida. Jerita orang kaya ba bacha Injil saritu nyadi jerita mayuh kitai. Kitai, baka orang kaya nya, berunding lebih ka diri empu ti begiga ka penguntong diri, reta tengkira ka diri datai ka kitai enda ulih meda ‘Lazarus’ ti ba depan mata kitai lebuh sida datai minta tolong.

Ba musin Lent tu, awak kitai muka ati ngambi rindu sereta berati ka utai ti dipeguna orang bukai lalu meri masa kitai enggau mandangka penyiru sereta pemadas. Pengawa pengerindu ti mit ulih ngubah orang ti disaup kitai. Aram kitai ingin bisi ati deka kaya ba mata Allah Taala saritu!

Nama kangau Jesus ka aku saritu lebuh aku besampi enggau ajar ari jako sempama?

《路十六:19-31》

“遇见现今的拉匝禄”
对耶稣而言，什么是富裕？寓言里的故事已经告诉了我们答案。就是有一颗爱人的心。爱是来自于关注他人需求和别人的困境以及继续的辅助和帮助别人。福音里的富人犹如我们的故事。我们就像那位富裕的人，只注重自己的需求，抱负，行程和一切以导至于忘了我们身边也需要帮忙的拉匝禄。
在这个四旬期，让我们以爱的心去关注那些需要帮忙的人并且让我们以爱和关怀去奉献给需要的人。我们所付出的爱和关心可以为他人带来很大的改变。让我们努力成为天主眼里的富翁。

省思题:
我们为寓言故事里的挑战而祈祷时所得到的讯息是什么？
