Abu, mengingatkan kita dunia ini adalah fana

Abu mengingatkan kita bahawa keadaan manusiawi dan dunia ini tidak kekal

VATIKAN – Pada Hari Rabu Abu, 2 Mac, Bapa Suci Fransiskus memberi peringatan terhadap godaan yang mempergunakan doa, puasa dan bersedekah Pra-Paska bagi mendapat sanjungan atau dipandang mulia oleh masyarakat. Menurut Bapa Suci, ini adalah “penyakit penampilan” yang mementingkan populariti di dunia daripada berusaha mengejar ganjaran kekal di syurga.

Dalam homili yang dibacakan oleh Setiausaha Negara Vatikan, Kardinal Pietro Parolin, Bapa Suci menyatakan bahawa upacara menerima abu adalah “tanda penting, yang membawa kita untuk merenung bahawa manusia dan dunia ini adalah fana atau tidak kekal.”

Prelatus itu menambah bahawa “menerima abu” adalah “seperti ubat rasanya pahit tetapi berkesan untuk menyembuhkan “penyakit penampilan baik”, iaitu penyakit yang mempergunakan tindakan rohani demi mendapat pujian dan nama baik daripada orang-orang di sekeliling kita.

Kardinal Parolin memimpin Misa Hari Rabu Abu di Basilika Santa Sabina yang disiarkan secara langsung. Beliau menggantikan Bapa Suci Fransiskus yang tidak dapat hadir kerana sakit lutut.

“Abu itu menggambarkan “kekosongan” tetapi makna suci abu ini tenggelam kerana usaha-usaha manusia yang gila mengejar ganjaran duniawi. Abu mengingatkan kita bahawa perkara-perkara di dunia ini adalah seperti debu yang akan terbang dan hilang disebabkan oleh sedikit tiupan angin. Sesungguhnya, kita berada di dunia ini bukan untuk mengejar angin; sebaliknya hati kita dahagakan keabadian Tuhan.”

Abu, tanda mengingatkan kita akan kefanaan manusia

“Upacara menerima abu di atas kepala kita yang dirayakan hari ini adalah “tanda tegas” yang membantu kita menghargai kefanaan keadaan manusia kita. Seperti ubat yang pahit, ia mujarab untuk mengubati penyakit zahir, mengubati penyakit rohani yang sia-sia dan menghalang kita untuk bergantung kepada sanjungan orang lain.

Bapa Suci mengingatkan umat akan amaran Yesus tentang mempergunakan doa, amal, dan puasa bagi mendapat nama yang baik. Ia seharusnya dilakukan secara tersembunyi dan ikhlas. “Oleh itu, pada musim Pra-Paska ini, mari berusaha untuk mengatasi rasa bongkak yang berselindung dalam batin kita serta membuka topeng kemunafikan kita sendiri.”

Disucikan oleh Abu Pra-Paska

Bapa Suci mengajak semua umat Kristian agar tidak lelah berbuat baik dan menjadikan masa Pra-Paska sebagai waktu untuk diperbaharui, untuk memelihara kehidupan batin kita, dan dalam perjalanan menuju Paska, semoga kita menumpukan hal-hal yang bukan bersifat sementara, tertuju kepada melakukan perkara-perkara yang diberkati dan ganjaran yang akan kita terima dari Bapa.

Katanya, “Pra-Paska adalah perjalanan penyembuhan yang berjalan hari demi hari dengan semangat yang diperbaharui” dan “doa, amal, dan puasa adalah sebahagian daripada proses itu.”

Doa, amal dan puasa

Bapa Suci menekankan bahawa doa — di tempat yang tersembunyi seperti berdoa di dalam bilik kita — adalah petua untuk menjadikan hidup kita berkembang di mana-pun kita berada kerana ia adalah dialog hangat dan penuh kepercayaan dengan Bapa di Syurga. Semoga pandangan kita yang tertuju kepada Tuhan yang Di Salib, mendorong hati kita untuk terbuka kepada “kelembutanNya yang menyentuh, dan luka-lukaNya menyembuhkan luka-luka kita dan luka dunia kita.”

Apabila doa menjadi amalan kita, ia akan membuahkan hasil dalam amal. Dan dengan sedekah Pra-Paska yang disucikan dengan abu ini, membawa kita kembali kepada apa yang penting iaitu sukacita dalam memberi. Sedekah yang ikhlas dan tanpa mahu disanjung, dapat mengisi hati kita dengan ketenangan dan harapan. — Media Vatikan/CNA
