Pastoral Statement for Christmas Vigil and Christmas Day Masses 2023
This year Christmas Vigil 24 Dec 2023, falls on the 4th Sunday of Advent, while Christmas day 25 Dec 2023 falls on a Monday.
At our meeting of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei in Jan 2023, we have decided as follows:
1. All the masses on 24 Dec 2023, that Sunday, including the evening masses, will be the regular Mass for the 4th Sunday of Advent.
2. The night Mass of Sunday 24 Dec will be the Christmas night Vigil Mass.
3. The day Mass of Monday 25 Dec will be the Christmas day mass.
Therefore, Catholics should come on Sunday 24th Dec to fulfill the Sunday mass obligation and Sunday 24th night Vigil Mass or Monday 25th for Christmas day.
