Uskup Sumatera Barat: Perubahan iklim mencetuskan bencana alam

Dalam temu bual dengan Vatican News, Uskup Sumatera Barat Vitus Rubianto Solichin dari Padang, Indonesia, membincangkan banjir tragis yang melanda wilayah itu, mengaitkannya dan bencana alam lain dengan perubahan iklim, dan menjelaskan cabaran untuk menyediakan bantuan.

Banjir kilat dan gelongsor lumpur di wilayah Sumatera Barat di Indonesia telah meragut sekurang-kurangnya 52 nyawa, dan lebih 3,000 orang telah dipindahkan.

Dalam temu bual dengan Vatican News, Uskup Sumatera Barat Vitus Rubianto Solichin, s.x., membincangkan bencana yang sedang berlaku, dan bagaimana malapetaka sebegitu menjadi lebih kerap dan dahsyat apabila krisis alam sekitar mencecah paras tertinggi baharu.

Pada petang Sabtu, hujan lebat mencetuskan banjir kilat, tanah runtuh, dan aliran lava sejuk, di tiga daerah di wilayah Sumatera Barat, lapor Reuters. Aliran lava sejuk, campuran abu gunung berapi, serpihan batu dan air seperti lumpur, datang dari Gunung Marapi, salah satu gunung berapi paling aktif di Sumatera, yang meletus dan meragut nyawa pada bulan Disember, dan telah meletus beberapa kali sejak itu.

Daripada 52 yang maut, agensi berita menyatakan, lebih 45 telah dikenal pasti, dan penyelamat tempatan, polis dan tentera terus mencari 17 yang lain yang hilang. Sehingga Selasa, hampir 3,400 orang telah dipindahkan ke bangunan berhampiran.

Hujan lebat di wilayah Sumatera Barat dijangka sehingga minggu depan, di mana pihak berkuasa memberi amaran agar sentiasa berwaspada tentang banjir kilat dan tanah runtuh sehingga 22 Mei. Orang ramai telah diberi amaran untuk menjauhi lereng bukit yang terdedah kepada tanah runtuh.

Uskup Padang: Tanah runtuh yang melanda banyak orang

Dalam wawancara itu, Uskup Padang mengimbau kembali hujan lebat yang melanda Sumatera Barat di wilayah keuskupan Padang.

Dia memanggil kerosakan itu “sangat mencolok,” memandangkan keluasan tanah runtuh ini dan begitu ramai orang terjejas, dengan sekatan yang menghalang pergerakan.

“Jika kerajaan dan penyelamat bekerjasama untuk membersihkan kawasan itu, lalu lintas dan pergerakan akan baik-baik saja,” dan kesulitan dan bahaya dapat dikurangkan, jelas uskup.

Keperluan untuk infrastruktur yang lebih baik

“Kerajaan,” keluhnya, “tidak sanggup membina lebuh raya.”

Memandangkan kecenderungan di Sumatera Barat, terutamanya dari Oktober hingga April, walaupun sekarang bulan Mei, untuk memerangi hujan lebat ini, beliau menekankan keperluan mendesak untuk dilengkapi dan mempunyai penyelesaian yang bersedia untuk menghadapi bencana alam seperti ini, pada bila-bila masa.

Banyak bukit dan lembah di Sumatera Barat, digabungkan dengan jalan kecil dan wilayah, jelas Uskup, memburukkan lagi keadaan.

“Terutama kerana penebangan hutan, tanah runtuh akan berlaku lebih dan lebih kerap,” katanya sambil memerhatikan pelbagai bencana yang dicetuskan oleh bencana alam semakin kerap berlaku.

Indonesia mempunyai penduduk Islam tertinggi di dunia, dan di Sumatera Barat, mereka mewakili peratusan penduduk yang sangat tinggi. “Terutama di keuskupan saya, orang Kristian tidak sampai 0.1%”

“Terdapat kira-kira 75,000 orang yang terjejas,” katanya, “tetapi tiada seorang pun daripada mereka beragama Kristian. Saya bertanya kepada paderi-paderi paroki kami. Tidak ada mangsa dalam kalangan orang Kristian kami.”

Usaha bantuan

Masalah utama yang dihadapi oleh mana-mana agama yang terjejas, “adalah kita juga mempunyai penyelamat Kristian atau Katolik, tetapi kadang-kadang orang Islam tidak mahu menerima bantuan Kristian atau bantuan Katolik.”

“Oleh itu, jelasnya, kita perlu menggunakan nama lain, yang kelihatan lebih neutral atau biasa, seperti Palang Merah.

“Mereka tidak akan menerima bantuan kami,” jelas Uskup, “seperti yang mereka katakan, ‘Ini dari orang Kristian.'”

“Ini juga masalahnya,” katanya. “Kami mahu membantu mereka, tetapi mereka tidak mahu menerima perkhidmatan daripada Gereja,” berfikir “kadang-kadang ia bermakna kami mahu mengkristiankan mereka, tetapi ia tidak seperti itu.”

Hidup dan wujud bersama

“Kami berkongsi tragedi ini bersama-sama,” katanya.

“Kami berkongsi tragedi ini bersama-sama.”

Sumatera Barat, katanya, adalah bahagian paling timur dan paling Islam di Indonesia, kerana beliau menjelaskan bahawa “majoriti umat Islam, termasuk di mana terdapat fundamentalis, berada di sini.”

“Tetapi dalam kehidupan seharian,” dia memberi jaminan, “kita boleh hidup bersama, wujud bersama, dan bekerjasama dengan kerajaan.”
